Atkins is currently seeking a highly motivated self-starter to join our Richland, WA Energy Team for as a Operational Research Modeler.



Job Description:


Operational Research Modeler collects and analyzes data to evaluate operational difficulties and makes recommendations to solve problems. Follows established modeling and evaluation processes to determine the effectiveness of current operational activities and to determine problem areas and develop solutions.


Develops, verifies, validates, and maintains stochastic simulation models to address a wide range of performance issues in existing and new, first of a kind nuclear facilities.


Analyzes model results so as to predict facility throughputs, downtimes, and availabilities. Identifies key bottlenecks and works with facility designers to eliminate these and demonstrate enhanced throughputs and availabilities.


Interfaces with design and operations groups to identify modeling needs and model input requirements to provide sound technical advice to resolve plant design and operational issues.


Participates as required in business development for Atkins by producing material for bid and proposal documents explaining our OR modeling capabilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience:


Minimum 5 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics Science, Engineering, Operational Research, Production Engineering or Management Science
Analytical problem solver with the ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.

 
Ability to interface effectively with facility designers and future operators so as to define precise needs and inputs for the models.


Familiarity with stochastic simulation tools such as the WITNESS suite of modeling software (or similar such as SUMUL8, ARENA, QUEST, FLEXSIM, etc.).


Proficient in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Vision and Visual Basic .


This position is for the U.S. Government, Department of Energy which requires U.S. citizenship.


Preferred 10 years’ experience in mathematical modeling.
