We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Building Structures team in Atkins Exeter Office as part of the Infrastructure business. We have significant opportunities in the local and national Defence market on exciting and challenging projects.
 
The successful candidates will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering, have solid experience in the design and assessment of building and civil structures in the UK and be Chartered with either the ICE or IStructE. The role may involve periods of time spent working away from Exeter and as such the candidates must be willing to travel.

The ability to act as a discipline lead and run projects supervising more junior staff is essential as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally the successful candidate needs to be self-motivated and hard working with a desire to help grow and shape the current team. Good commercial awareness and project management skills are desirable.

Team
The Infrastructure Building Structures team in the Exeter office currently comprises a total of 8 staff working on a mixture of heavy civils projects and building projects. The team is led by Pete Herrod-Taylor with 2 Senior Structural Engineers, 2 Senior Structural Technicians and 3 Graduate / Assistant Structural Engineers. The team work on a wide variety of local and national projects in the UK of all scales, predominantly in the Education, Defence and Rivers and Coastal sectors. They also work on major projects located abroad. 


Requirements

In addition to the role requirements detailed above the following is required;

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Extensive experience working as a structural engineer in the UK buildings sector;
  • Chartered Engineer status (ICE or IStructE);
  • Experience in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes;
  • Sound experience in conceptual design; and
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and structural analysis software (Robot and Fastrak). Revit experience is also desirable.

Successful candidates may be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
