If you’re a experienced traffic/transportation engineering professional with eight (8) years under your belt, we want to know you. Atkins seeks an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer - ITS to join our Transportation team in our Henderson, NV office. Under direction, this professional provides the expertise of a seasoned engineer to all conventional aspects of functional area and applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems. May function as individual researcher or technical specialist. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

The ideal applicant must demonstrate technical professional competency in traffic engineering and ITS technology as it relates to the planning, engineering, design, and operational needs of traffic systems (especially signals). The chosen applicant must apply broad knowledge of leading-edge traffic engineering principles and techniques as well as an understanding of the technologies for the planning, engineering, and operations of traffic engineering projects and be prepared to conduct projects for a variety of clients ranging from private companies and cities to the Nevada
Department of Transportation. Experience is all types of traffic studies and planning analysis is desired.


Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are: 

• Under the direction of a Project Manager, conduct production work to ensure that quality technical services areprovided to clients and the program meets its operating performance targets.
• Project management of smaller-scale local agency projects and on-call assignments on an as-needed basis.
• Assist with the conducting of traffic engineering studies, field work and analysis.
• Support project production and marketing efforts to ensure client satisfaction, continued program production backlog, and profitability of all projects within the program unit.
• Assist with the design of Traffic Engineering (especially signal design) and ITS projects based on Nevada Department of Transportation Standards and Specifications.
• Assist with projects of varying size, and conduct technical work leading to the completion of projects.
• Assist with the writing of reports, delivering of presentations, communication of concepts and deliverables to clients, and participating in quality control checks.
• Perform other duties as the supervisor and/or the client may from time to time deem necessary.



REQUIREMENTS:

• P.E. license is required. 
• 8+ years of relevant transportation or ITS experience since degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
• Proven experience as a task manager on large-scale project, or project management of smaller-scale projects, or a combination of both is considered a plus.
• Must have valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company policy.
• Prior experience working with Nevada Department of Transportation and current local agency and municipality contacts/relationships preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and business development skills are required for this position.
• Exceptional communication skills are required in order to develop high-quality written, verbal, and graphical deliverables in the form of progress reports, operational concepts, technology reviews, designs, specifications, presentations, and proposals.
• Experience with traffic engineering analysis and design software such as HCS, Synchro and Microstation is required.
• Some travel will be required with this position.

EDUCATION:

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or a traffic engineering and ITS related subject such as Electrical Engineering.
