High Speed 2 (HS2) is a new high speed rail network being developed and promoted by HS2 Ltd. Tasked with delivering economic growth, transformational connectivity improvements, journey time reductions and capacity enhancements, the scheme as proposed by HS2 Ltd involves developing a Y shaped network, connecting eight of the ten largest cities in Britain. Network Rail required 7 Asset Management Plans (AMPs) for their major structures on their Anglia route to estimate the Whole Life Costs (WLC) and the associated interventions (Life Cycle Planning) for each of the structures. In addition, Atkins complied the entire report which included information about the structure location and history, as well as structure management and asset management policies and objectives.

HS2 commissioned the DAM team to develop a tool that supported analysis of the whole Life Cycle Cost of HS2. The tool was used in comparing early design phase options for various asset types, including structures. The DAM team developed a scenario-builder that incorporated initial construction cost and future Operations and Maintenance (O&M) costs, such as inspection, maintenance and replacement of components.

The New Eastern Villages is one of the largest greenfield developments in the country. It will consist of 8,000 homes, new schools, employment spaces and community and leisure facilities. In an effort to mitigate the impact of the new traffic generated from this, Swindon Borough Council has proposed a number of infrastructure improvement schemes. Key cycling and pedestrian routes will also be incorporated in the development.
