Andrew Caughey, Aerospace Engineer, Atkins

Aerospace Engineer

What have been your key achievements since joining Atkins?

Since joining Atkins, I’ve worked on the structural analysis of a number of large aerospace structures – A400M, A330, A350XWB and the Bombardier CSeries (A220). Being able to work on the most significant projects in the industry, and knowing that the components I have been involved in designing and certifying are now in-service on aircraft which will carry millions of passengers for years to come is particularly rewarding.

What attracted you to Atkins?

As an engineering consultancy, Atkins has the potential to offer a variety of work across engineering disciplines and structures. My projects to date have been in the static stress domain, working closely with designers, fatigue and damage tolerance engineers and other engineers who are experts in their fields. Atkins is regarded highly by our clients for the technical quality of our work, and delivering to these high standards has been great for developing my own technical capability.

What other activities have you been involved with?

I’ve been involved in lots of social events as part of our strong graduate community, helped to organise events like the UK Graduates trip to the Edinburgh Fringe and our Graduate Summer Event. I’ve attended the Farnborough Air Show, working with our market teams to engage with potential new clients and demonstrating our digital tools which support the aerospace industry to design faster, reduce downtime and lower costs. There are lots of things beyond “the day job” that you can get involved with when working at Atkins.
