What have been your key achievements since joining Atkins?
I started working for Atkins in August 2015, shortly after graduating from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc in Geography and Geographical Information Science. My team were really welcoming and offered me the opportunity to work on projects most suited to my abilities – data analysis, mapping and modelling. I have worked on several headline projects from Highway England’s Strategic Economic Growth Plan to Malawi’s Transport Master Plan however the key achievement for me was the opportunity to share my knowledge with not only my team but also with people in the wider Transportation Practice. So far I have delivered two training presentations and I am currently putting together a toolkit which will go live and offer guidance documents to people wanting to learn how to use GIS Software.
What attracted you to Atkins?
When searching for a suitable graduate position I searched through countless Engineering, Environmental and Financial Consultants Companies. For me, Atkins stood out through their plethora of projects and the wide spectrum of sectors and services that they cover. This variety attracted me to Atkins. I was also very impressed with their sustainability principles which are put in practice consistently across all of their offices.
What other activities have you been involved with?
I have taken part in a bridges and structures STEM event together with several other Atkins colleagues at the Museum of Science and Industry. Being part of the event and seeing how enthusiastic young people were when they were engaging in our planned activities motivated me to become a STEM Ambassador and lead activities myself. In May this year, staff from the Manchester office took part in the Manchester 10k to support our colleague and the charity which supported her – Aspire. Wellbeing and community awareness is something I am really passionate about and so the House Manager nominated me to become a Communication Champion and work closely with the Office Manager. We organize monthly events to support various local charities and causes to show support for our community.
