Application process for graduates in the Middle East

So you’ve decided that you’d like to work for Atkins in the Middle East, what do you do next? Information on our selection process is included below. It’s designed to help us find the right people for the right jobs and provide us with a structure that ensures all applicants are treated in a consistent and fair way.

The selection process includes four consecutive stages. You will need to be successful at each stage to continue to the next one.

Online application form
Our online application form is the first stage of the selection process.You to tell us about your academic achievements, work experience, personal details, and your skills and competencies, relevant to some of the non-technical skills we are looking for in our graduates in the Middle East.

You are only allowed one application per recruitment cycle and you should apply for a job based on your degree discipline. Duplicate applications will be withdrawn.
You will receive an email notification once you have successfully submitted your application.

Once you start work on this part of the application you will have 14 days in which to complete it
, after which point it will be withdrawn. Offers will be made to selected applicants as they apply, so we suggest you submit your application as early as you can.

Time commitment

This initial online application should take you around 30 minutes to complete but this will depend on the amount of effort you want to put into it.

Top tips

  • We receive more than 3,000 applications each year so make sure you complete your application. Show us how much you want to work for Atkins!
  • We recommend you take your time to answer the competency questions. One line answers will not be accepted.
  • Make sure your answers are legible, clear and concise and you have checked spelling
  • Complete ALL questions, don’t leave anything blank
  • If you are not able to complete the application form in one session you can save it and go back to it later.
Next step

You will now be invited to complete the online psychometric tests. Expect to receive your email invitation to complete the psychometric test within 24 hours of submitting the initial online application.

Online psychometric tests
The second stage of our selection process is an online numerical and verbal reasoning psychometric test. All our graduates are being recruited for technical roles and need to have a certain level of numeracy. English is the first language used in our business and generally the business language across the GCC, so graduates need to be able to understand and converse effectively in English. The tests can only be taken in English.

You will be given seven days to complete the psychometric tests after which your application will be withdrawn.

Time commitment

It will take you around 45 minutes to read the instructions, go through the practice questions and to complete the actual tests.

Objectives

  • Ensure applicants who progress to the next stage have the required levels of literacy and numeracy
  • Fair and consistent assessment for all applicants
  • Help us with the initial assessment at the early stage of the process as we receive high volumes of applications

Test tips

  • Allow enough time to complete the tests
  • Ensure you will not be interrupted or disturbed
  • Make sure you complete the practice questions so you understand the type of questions you can expect in the tests
  • Ensure you have a good internet connection.
Next step

After completing the test, you will be informed if you have have successfully progressed to the next stage.

Telephone screening interview
The third stage of the selection process is the telephone screening interview. It helps us to understand why you want to work for Atkins (and move to the Middle East for people who don’t live locally), discuss any questions we have after reading your application form, identify the business areas and office locations you would like to be considered for, and to assess some of the non- technical skills we are looking for in our graduates. It also gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Atkins, the roles, living in the Middle East, or about the graduate development programme.

Time commitment

The interview usually takes around 30 minutes..

Objectives
  • Identify your preferred business areas, your availability, and your willingness to move around the region
  • Understand your reasons for wanting to work for Atkins
  • Assess your skills and competencies for some of the key non-technical skills we are looking for in our graduates
  • Consistent and fair screening of all applicants

Interview tips

  • Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or interrupted
  • Allocate enough time in your diary
  • Remember time differences - the UAE/Oman is GMT+4, Bahrain/Qatar/Saudi Arabia is GMT+3
  • Don't read off a piece of paper - it will be obvious to the interviewer
  • Be clear, concise and professional
  • It's your opportunity to sell your skills and reasons for wanting to work for Atkins, so make the most of it!
Next step

If you are successful your details will be sent to the relevant hiring manager(s) for review, ahead of a potential final stage technical interview. It may take several weeks to confirm whether or not this will take place. 

Technical interview
The final stage of our selection process is a technical interview with the hiring manager. This will be conducted face-to-face if you are in the same country or via video conference, Skype or telephone. The interview will focus on your reasons for wanting to work for the particular business and in the relevant location, your education and experience and the technical knowledge you have developed at university that is transferable to the role you are interviewing for. You will also have the chance to ask any questions you have.

Time commitment

The interview usually takes around 40 minutes.

  • Assess your motivations for working in the particular business area/office you are interviewing for
  • Assess your technical knowledge and it's relevance
  • Fair & consistent assessment for all applicants

Interview tips

  • If you are being interviewed via Skype or over the phone find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or interrupted
  • Allocate enough time in your diary
  • Remember the time differences - the UAE/Oman is GMT+4, Bahrain/Qatar/Saudi Arabia is GMT+3
  • Don't read off a piece of paper - it will be obvious to the interviewer
  • Be clear, concise and professional
  • You have an opportunity to sell your skills (technical and non-technical) and reasons for wanting to work for the business area and location you are interviewing for so make the most of it!

Decision

At this stage your full application will be reviewed and we will contact you to inform you of our decision.
