Insights 5 unbeatable reasons to join our Graduate Development Programme
On graduating from Ulster University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Simone joined Atkins' Graduate Development Programme in Belfast and has been at Atkins ever since. She's progressed from Graduate Engineer to Assistant Engineer, achieved Chartership, and is now an Associate Director in our Project Delivery Practice.
Here are Simone’s top 5 reasons you should join the Atkins Graduate Development Programme:
1. You'll get to work on major UK projects
Atkins has given me many opportunities to work on some of the UK's largest infrastructure projects throughout my career. Early on, I was Site Supervisor on the Belfast Sewers Project and, more recently, Design Manager for Roads and Networks at Hinkley Point C. I've found myself walking across a field in the Highlands of Scotland one week and looking into a sewer in Belfast the next.
2. You'll enjoy exposure to high-profile clients
I have focussed on delivering multi-disciplinary projects to budget, cost and programme for various clients and contractors across water, power, roads, and infrastructure industries. Clients include; NI Water, Irish Water, NNB, Babcock, Scottish Water, and Southern Water.
3. You'll feel proud to work for a leading consultancy
I've represented Atkins at multiple National and International Industry conferences in Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. At these conferences, I have showcased exemplary projects I've worked on, identifying Atkins as an Industry Leader.
4. You'll enjoy global career mobility
Working for a global company like Atkins, I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively during my career. This has included multiple visits to our Global Technology Centre in India to work with and develop the skills of the local team in Bangalore. I have also travelled to Qatar, Dubai, Canada, and USA to aid project delivery. I also joined the Atkins Ireland team for two years on secondment.
5. You'll have great opportunities to explore different career directions
The best thing about working at Atkins is the multiple opportunities available at all levels, like worldwide secondments, site experience on globally recognized infrastructure projects and ongoing support with your career development.
