Christmas All Year

The time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s isn’t enough time for this small community charity in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to do all the good things they want to do in just six weeks.  Recognizing that people have needs throughout the year, the Anderson County Holiday Bureau (ACHB) provides toys, books, games and food to low-income families year-round.

Since 2011, Isotek System’s Christmas Committee has supported ACHB – each year raising more than the previous. While philanthropy is an essential value of our corporate culture, this year the relatively small team of 160 Isotek personnel exceeded expectations by raising more than $11,000.

The money was raised through several fundraisers and personal monetary contributions in just over two weeks. Fundraising events included a “Spot the Baby” contest, pizza and chili and chips sales, a modified version of “Painting with a Twist,” “Penny Wars” and sales from cookie and candy tins filled with homemade treats.

ACHB has always been an all-volunteer organization since its humble beginnings after World War II. Some volunteers will serve up to 1,500 hours each year dressing dolls, and cleaning, repairing and painting toys games and bicycles getting ready for Christmas distribution. Last year, ACHB distributed about 700 food vouchers, as well as toys, games, bicycles and computers to over 750 children.
