Airport Civil Engineer to work within our growing Aviation team. The opportunity would suit an engineer with ambitions to develop their career within a consultancy that is really going places within the UK and global aviation sector.
As an engineer within the Aviation team you will have the opportunity to play a key role in a variety of Atkins most critical projects and to work alongside some of the industry’s leading experts in delivering market-leading solutions to Atkins’ clients across the aviation sector.
The role is primarily based in

Requirements
We are looking for a Civil Engineer with experience in co-ordinating and delivering designs in an airport environment. The candidate would be a Chartered Civil Engineer (or near chartered) with airfield and infrastructure design experience, including successful delivery of schemes from concept to detailed design. The position requires credibility, competence and technical excellence as it will be a role working closely with industry leading clients, stakeholders and will necessitate the development, approval and implementation of robust design solutions through collaborative working, trust and proactive management of client demands.
Qualifications
• Degree-qualified Civil Engineer or equivalent qualification
• Chartered or near Chartered Engineer
Experience, knowledge and skills
• Experienced in airport infrastructure planning and geometric design
• Experienced in airfield engineering design
• Knowledge and experience of airfield pavement design, materials specification and maintenance including principles and application of UK and international pavement design methods
• Proven track record in co-ordinating and delivering design solutions in the airports sector
• Application of CAA, ICAO, DFT and UK Airport operator standards and design requirements
• An understanding of the key drivers and challenges of airport design, specifically the interactions between aviation and airport operations, people and baggage movement
• Effective communicator (written, verbal & presentations)
• Planning and control of technical resources to deliver projects on time and to budget
• Able to develop and motivate others
• A winning attitude
Responsibilities
• Design leader for airport civil designs
• Technical responsibility for designs
• Mentoring and development of graduate engineers and technicians
• Obtaining stakeholder input and agreement to technical solutions
• Co-ordination and management of other discipline inputs into projects
• Developing proposals for new commissions
Other
• A willingness to develop and build client relationships
• Recognition that international work brings international travel, and a willingness to undertake commissions overseas, potentially for extended periods away from the UK
