We are Atkins; Architecture, Master planning and Landscape Practice. We have an opportunity to appoint a high-quality designer and inspirational work-winner to help further develop Atkins’ position within the stations and transport markets. Atkins are already very successful in these markets but we are looking to significantly grow our presence in the region. This role would be key to that success.
Likely to be already operating at Senior Architect / Associate level in an architectural design environment, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear ability and proven track record of working as part of a team to deliver exceptional results aligned with strategic business ambitions with excellent communication skill with the ability to positively influence decisions. They will be a proactive & energetic team leader able to motivate a team to deliver exceptional results.


Although focused on the Northern and Scottish regions the role will very much form part of our national Architecture, Masterplanning and Landscape Practice with all the opportunities for collaboration and development that this brings.


The successful candidate will work locally, and nationally, win and deliver work and there will be a requirement for flexibility in respect of travel and location based on project and business demands.



Skills / Requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic new member to work within our existing team to;
• Lead by example through inspiration design linked to an understanding of technical delivery.
• Be client centric with the ability to confidently engage with clients and stakeholders.
• Have a portfolio of clients or contacts in these markets
• Proven track record of winning and developing new business opportunities
• Have a detailed understanding of the design and delivery of educational, commercial and residential schemes
• Have a detailed knowledge of the market in the region
• Be creative in their approach
• Ability to lead bids and opportunities in this market
• Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key clients and prospective clients
• Be engaged with the successful delivery of secured projects
• A good awareness of Autodesk Revit and managing projects in a BIM environment.
• Practical working knowledge of MS Office products or similar
• Practical working knowledge of Sketchup or similar
• Practical working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar.


Desirable Skills
• Experience of leading change in aspects of business or functional management.
• Mass modelling skills in a BIM environment
• Knowledge of advanced features of digital / computational design
• Fat pen / hand drawing sketching

Responsibilities
Business Development

• Lead and support business development and work winning and bidding functions.
• Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key existing and prospective clients.
• Proven track record of identifying, bidding and winning high quality work opportunities.
• Proven track record of developing business connections and opportunities
• Identifying opportunities and supporting the development of winning bids.
• Strategic vision of the market and industry and ability to focus our business to take full advantage of market conditions.


Commercial Management
• Detailed knowledge of our competitors, understand our market differentiators and help to shape them.
• Knowledge and ability to deliver, as part of team, work within competitive fee scales.
• Proven track record in delivering margin/profit


Business Management
• Lead projects as a creative designers.
• Provide design and technical leadership for a range of projects.
• Liaise with key clients and be capable of discussing design/technical solutions to stakeholders including technical and non-technical clients.
• Secure work through bidding and developing compelling design concepts.
• Successful delivery of projects to a high level of quality and Client satisfaction acting as Lead Consultant/Design Manager.

 

People Leadership
• Manage and inspire a team through strong, courageous and appropriate leadership.
• Proven team management skills and experience.
• Development of the design culture and capability of our multi-disciplinary design team(s)
• An inclusive leader with a confident operating style who is able to deal with diversity within the teams that they manage.
• Support and develop junior staff through guidance, mentoring and leadership of their development. Identify and facilitate training opportunities as required mindful of costs and service delivery.
• A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator with the ability to influence others
• Be able to work calmly under pressure and lead, inspire and motivate teams.


Location
Leeds /Glasgow / Warrington / Newcastle – expected to travel mainly within the region and nationally as required.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
