Architect - Associate Director - Cities & Development / Education

We have an opportunity to appoint a high-quality designer and inspirational work-winner to help further develop Atkins’ position within the education and cities & development markets. Atkins are already very successful in these markets but we are looking to significantly grow our presence in the region. This role would be key to that success.

Although focused on the Northern and Scottish regions the role will very much form part of our national Architecture, Masterplanning and Landscape Practice with all the opportunities for collaboration and development that this brings.


Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic new member to work with our existing team to;

• Lead by example through inspirational design
• Be client centric
• Have a portfolio of clients or contacts in these markets
• Proven track record of winning and developing new business opportunities
• Have a detailed understanding of the design and delivery of educational, commercial and residential schemes
• Have a need detailed knowledge of the market in the region
• Be creative in their approach
• Ability to lead bids and opportunities in this market
• Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key clients and prospective clients
• Be engaged with the successful delivery of secured projects

Responsibilities

• To manage and inspire a team through strong design and technical leadership for major projects.
• To ensure design responses are pragmatic and respond to the client brief whilst respecting the opportunities and constraints that each site affords, through climate, context and culture.
• To continue to develop designs that are firmly rooted with a strong narrative and that seek to enhance our reputation.
• Reporting on activity and analysis of feedback and success factors

People Leadership

• Proven team management skills and experience
• Development of the design culture and capability of our multi-disciplinary design team(s)
• An inclusive leader with a confident operating style who is able to deal with diversity within the teams that they manage
• A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator with the ability to influence others
• Be able to work calmly under pressure and lead, inspire and motivate our teams

Location

Leeds / Glasgow / Warrington /Newcastle - expected to travel mainly within the region and nationally as required.
