We are currently recruiting for an Architect to become a key member of the Rail/Transport team. The architectural designs will cover a variety of areas including the following: station buildings, mixed-use transport oriented development, staff accommodation and all types of track-side rail infrastructure buildings.

A working knowledge of UK CDM requirements, System Integration Principles and carbon critical design is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake architectural design to London Underground, Network Rail, British / European and Atkins Rail standards.
  • To carry out single discipline checks of architectural designs prepared within own team, other groups and other businesses within area of expertise.
  • Lead architectural design, where appropriate, and deliver to quality, time and cost.
  • Author technical reports, either for internal circulation, or for client issue.
  • Monitor design quality.
  • Report to the line manager in the London Architecture & Master Planning practice.

Requirements

  • A Chartered Architect with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part III qualification.
  • Relevant and appropriate experience as an architect within a building or rail environment.
  • Must have proven experience of all RIBA stages of design.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of the United Kingdom Building Regulations.
  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of construction detailing.
  • Must have a good knowledge of CDM, DDA regulations.
  • Experience of working in Multi-D environment and good understanding of co-ordination and interfaces with other disciplines.
  • You will have experience of computer aided design tools, such Microstation and AutoCAD.
  • The successful applicant will be a competent user of IT tools, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiar with working in a heavily regulated environment, such as the railways.
  • Proven experience in leading architectural design of projects and managing and mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Good command of the English Language and an effective communicator both written and oral.
  • Must work well with others within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Capable of liaising directly with clients and main contractors
