Assistant Building Surveyor (Heritage and Conservation)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Building Surveyor, with experience working with architecturally and historically important heritage assets, to join a growing building surveying team of heritage specialists in London. We provide expert advice and building surveying services to clients, working on high profile projects across the UK including scheduled monuments and World Heritage Sites. Our growing reputation for innovation and approaching heritage differently has enabled us to look to strengthen our built heritage expertise in London. The role will involve supporting senior surveyors where you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse, interesting and challenging client base and in turn drive your career forward.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Building Surveyors and Senior Managers in their day to day activities
  • Working across a number of projects, predominantly within Heritage and Conservation but other sectors also, and being able to provide a range of building surveying duties
  • Supporting senior team member in the administration of standard forms of building contract, such as JCT/NEC
  • Understand the principles of quality, safety and the environment within the management of projects
  • Assist in carrying out surveys, inspections, schedules, provide professional services and the management of schemes in London and the South East


Requirements:

  • A BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or a similar degree accredited by RICS
  • Aspiring to become a Member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • An academic qualification in archaeology, conservation or the historic environment or architectural history or equivalent would be highly desirable
  • A sound technical surveying knowledge, demonstrating growing experience and ability
  • Good sound knowledge of drafting technical documents
  • Full understanding of Health and Safety requirements
  • An ability to manage your time
  • Mathematical ability and an understanding of the need for accuracy in all your work
  • Punctuality and a commitment to get the job done
  • IT literate –a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software packages including CAD
  • Awareness of your limitations and when to ask for assistance from more senior staff
  • A professional manner and outlook
