Assistant Civil Engineer

Atkins Civil Engineering & Advanced Technology Practice are looking to appoint an Assistant Civil Engineer to work on a wide range of water and wastewater projects - including treatment works, pipeline and pumping stations, collection and storage systems.

The role will be based in Epsom. The salary for the role is competitive.


Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be working as part of a design team, under the supervision of a Project/Design Manager or Senior or Principal Engineer, which will include:

  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment to ensure successful delivery of projects
  • Embrace digital engineering and promoting innovative engineering design solutions
  • Production of quality and safe design solutions for projects in accordance with relevant design standards and codes
  • Carry out engineering design calculation, drawings and report writing complying with Akins’ design management system
  • Co-ordination of projects to programme and budget complying with Atkins’ business management governance
  • Co-ordination with clients or contractors and discussing technical solutions in the delivery of water civil engineering to stakeholders including technical and non-technical clients – both in projects and at tender stage
  • Assist with and/or contribute to winning work, through production of fees, scope definition and quality answers in response to client tenders


Requirements:

  • A strong technical background, including first principles analysis and use of relevant UK and international codes and standards
  • Honours Degree in Civil Engineering (Minimum 2:1)
  • Ideally have a Master Degree in Civil Engineering or Water/Wastewater Engineering
  • Good understanding of BIM and its application in the water industry
  • Knowledge of hydraulic design, open channel flow and pressure pipe systems relating to engineering within the water sector
  • Knowledge of water retaining structures or structural design within the water sector will be beneficial but not essential  
  • Previous experiences with the design of water retaining structures, pumping stations and other treatment structures
  • Highly motivated, organised and with a strong desire to promote technical excellence within project teams and wider Atkins team/practice
  • Working with contractors on site to deliver the successful implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a multidisciplinary team including with Clients, Contractors and colleagues alike.
  • Flexible approach to work location, including overseas if required.
