Responsibilities
The majority of work is likely to be regional, but there will be technical collaboration and networking with the ecologists working within the company around the UK. We support our staff in developing their careers through formal training and through working alongside national experts. 

The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Provide technical and project support to the Derby Ecology team and beyond; 
• Work with ecologists and other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins and across the UK to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients; 
• Assist on field surveys and help plan and co-ordinate ecological mitigation works; 
• Undertake nature conservation/ecology assessments; 
• Continue to develop their technical skills paying attention to CPD requirements; 
• Manage their own time and workload in collaboration with other team members; 
• Prepare bids and management of project budgets; 
• Work within deadlines and budgets; and
• Work effectively as part of a team delivering a first class service to our clients.


Requirements
• CIEEM membership (or eligible if not currently held)
• A good degree in ecology or similar subject and ideally an MSc
• Understanding of relevant UK & EU legislation, planning policies and licensing regulations
• Up to date knowledge of survey guidance and assessment for UK protected species
• Good project management skills
• Full UK driver’s licence 
• Experience of report writing, ideally including EcIA chapters

Desirable
• Experience working within ecological consultancy;
• Experience of Phase 1 habitat survey and protected species survey

Training
Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual appraisal process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.
