Our Transportation Division is currently seeking Assistant Engineers in our South Wales offices in Cardiff and Swansea to support the delivery of a wide variety of multi-disciplinary highway projects across the UK.

You’ll be working as part of one of the largest transportation consultancies in the UK, and a leading supplier of engineering services to government, regulatory and local authorities, infrastructure owners and operators. Major clients include Welsh Government, Highway England, design and build contractors and other niche clients. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on overseas projects and with our internationally based design teams.

Ideally you’ll have a background in design and delivery of a range of highway schemes. You’ll be familiar with working in large, geographically dispersed multidisciplinary design teams on projects at varying stages of development from feasibility to detailed design.

We are looking for someone who enjoys an engineering challenge and finding solutions. Someone who is hardworking and enthusiastic and will bring this to the role to assist our teams in delivering great work. You will be supported to develop yourself and to carry out work on your own or as part of a team, and to ensure we go the extra mile, exceeding client's needs. We’d expect you to:-
• An Excellent communicator with confidence to work on your own initiative or as part of teams
• Use your excellent analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise and recommend options.
• Undertake designs and the production of and review design documentation including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.
• Stay abreast of industry developments and changes in standards.
• Develop more junior staff, typically apprentices, and you yourself will be working hard toward professional qualification under formal training agreements.
• Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home on occasion; this might include periods overseas of 3 to 6 months.


Requirements
Essential

• BEng / MEng or MSc degree in civil engineering or equivalent
• Working towards Chartered status with the ICE
• A good track record in civil engineering and structural design
• A thorough understanding of relevant standards including DMRB, British and European standards
• Good written standard of English
• Good oral communication abilities
• Strong interpersonal and team working skills

Responsibilities

As an Assistant Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of design works, including but not limited to:
• Preparing scheme drawings, from feasibility design through to detailed design
• Preparation of reports such as feasibility studies, method statements, specifications, approval documents and detailed design documents
• Production of drawings in collaboration with CAD technicians
• Utilising 3-D design packages, ideally including MX, AutoDesk Civils 3D and Microdrainage (or similar)
• Preparing works packages - bill of quantities, specifications and construction drawings
• Assisting with the resolution of engineering problems
• Ensuring tasks are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets
• Site supervision of highway improvement schemes
• Keeping up-to-date with current methods and design guidelines
• Compliance with Quality, Safety, Environment and managerial procedures
• Supporting more experienced Engineers in designing highway schemes for both the public and private sectors
• Support to senior staff in co-ordination of tenders and projects for clients

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
