SNC Lavalin's Atkins business is looking for talented individuals to join our Electrical Systems Practice, to help us deliver rail projects of varying scale, as well as help us to expand our services and capabilities to the wider Transportation industry.
The Power & Distribution design team works both on UK and international projects. We work with our clients to understand their requirements and produce design solutions covering feasibility studies, option selection, outline and detailed design, and construction support.
We are keen to hear from committed individuals who are seeking Electrical Engineering design roles, ranging from those in the early years of their career to those who already have a significant amount of experience.

Working as part of a team, the role will provide opportunities to:
• Work with both internal and external Customers to deliver design solutions for traction power and high voltage distribution equipment for a range of overground, underground and light rail infrastructure projects.
• Work with designers in a multi-disciplinary team to produce traction power designs that are fully coordinated with overhead line, track, signalling, telecoms, civils and low voltage equipment designs.
• Develop design and calculation skills and contribute to the ongoing development of CAD and BIM technology and processes.
• Develop your skills and competence to work towards professional qualification with help from a mentor.

We're looking for systematic thinkers with some engineering design experience who are keen to further develop their design skills. Experience in the rail industry or another regulated or safety-critical industry would be welcomed, but is not essential.
We're looking for individuals with creativity and strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a team, assisting with the planning, design and smooth running of a variety of projects whilst constantly developing your skills and experience.


Job Details
Essential Requirements
• Further education qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience in a technical design environment
• Experience working with design drawings for electrical distribution equipment
• The successful applicant will be a competent user of IT tools such as Microsoft Office

Desirable Requirements
• Experience in Rail or another regulated industry
• Experience with high voltage design
• AC and/or DC traction electrification experience
• Experience of working with design drawings of substations, switchgear, transformers and associated ancillary equipment
• Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status or ambition to work towards it
• Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
