Purpose of the Role

The assistant financial controller for ADS&T practices assists with the financial management of the practice operations within the division.  Preparing practice accounts along with associated reporting.  Producing reports to assist in the efficient management of the practices.  The role reports directly to the Finance Controller.

Requirements

  • Qualified or nearly qualified Accountant ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Some knowledge of Atkins’ finance processes, standards and systems
  • The role will require travel, mainly within the UK

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and support of practice / divisional monthly management accounts
  • Support of the budget and forecasting process including commentary
  • Analyse variances to budgets working closely with the financial controller to understand, explain and anticipate financial performance for the practice / central unit
  • Weekly: Produce executive productivity report, overhead reviews and timesheet management
  • Monthly: Produce practice / division flash report, complete balance sheet reconciliations, overhead analysis, produce monthly practice reports and commentary
  • Quarterly: Produce balance sheet strength including trends, complete controlled self-assessment reviews and produce reporting for the QBR’s
  • Annually: Assist with PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) returns, supplementary statutory analysis
  • Produce resource reporting requirements and availability for markets and practices
  • Assist internal audit and control self-assessment process
  • Ad hoc projects and support to the financial controller

Competencies

  • IT literate, with strong excel skills (to advance level including pivot tables, look-ups and macros)
  • Analytical with an enquiring mind
  • Proactive approach – able to work autonomously and use own initiative
  • Commercially aware
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and process to a high standard under time pressure

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
