JOB SUMMARY
Atkins Signalling and Communications Systems (SCS) Practice within our Transportation business provides a range of signalling and telecommunications engineering resources to support our projects and direct to clients. With over 200 permanent and contract staff engaged in delivering design, project engineering and technical investigation services we have a varied portfolio of project works to support and administer.

Our Practice director is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious project management professional into the Transportation Systems Practice to be an Assistant Project Manager embedded within our SCS Practice. This individual will be expected to provide support across a range of Practice activities including bidding, project/package management and practice operations.

Please note that the salary banding for the role is between £35000 and £40000 depending on experience.

This will be based in the Birmingham office.


ROLE
This role is that of a Assistant Project Manager reporting to the Practice Manager (Operations) and based out of our Birmingham Design office in the Axis.

Primary functions include:
Bid Management:
• Provide support, and lead where applicable, Practice input to Transportation bids.
• Act as Bid Manager for Practice lead bids direct to Clients
• Co-ordinate practice resources supporting bids and assist in collation of bid estimates and other information.
• Administer and update practice data in CRM pipeline (Opportunity Tracking) system
• Ensure compliance with bid governance processes through use of i-gate and other systems/tools used by the business
• Set up enquiries in JD Edwards (JDE) finance system and administer bid resource allocations and monitor bid costs.

Work Package Management:
• Support practice teams (Design Managers, Lead engineers etc.) in their delivery of Work Packages to our internal clients (ie Project managers)
• Provide professional guidance through tools, provision of financial data, reports etc. to ensure practice delivery performance is to the highest standard
• Seek to ensure Work Package Agreements are in place and agreed across the projects our Practice staff are engaged on.
• Take on role of Work Package Manager where required on specific projects
• Provide regular summary information to the Practice Director on practice work package performance across key projects.

Project Management:
• Take on role of Project Manager for specific practice lead projects (typically small-medium, single discipline signalling & telecomms type commissions) and carry out all duties necessary under that role including:
• Client liaison
• Project set up in JDE, Enterprise Advantage (EA) etc.
• Secure resources (including as necessary commercial, planning, QSSE)
• Programme creation and update
• Monthly reporting (Client and internal)
• Applications and invoices
• Close out and lessons learned

Practice Operations Support:
• Support the Practice Manager (Operations) in regular and ad-hoc practice operations activities including workload planning/forecasting, budget planning, resource management, project issue resolution etc.


REQUIREMENTS
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• 2-5 years experience of project management experience in railway engineering environment.
• Thorough knowledge of Rail Signalling Design delivery processes
• Understanding of UK Rail Signalling Design and Build projects
• HNC/ HND/ Degree or other qualification in technical (e.g. engineering) or project management

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
• Member or working towards membership of the Association of Project Managers (APM)
• Technical/design background in railway signalling / telecommunications industry
• Familiarity with Atkins systems such as CRM, EA, JDE, i-gate

Essential Person Qualities:
• Willing and able to learn
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Can do attitude and flexible
• Able to work within a team, but also be self motivating
• Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritise duties
• IT literate

LOCATION
This role will be based from our Birmingham office but flexibility is required to attend other Atkins offices around UK on occasions.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
