Atkins’ Transportation is our centre of excellence for the design of highway and rail infrastructure projects. We aim to be the first choice designer for local and national highway authorities, Network Rail, contractors and developers. We are working on a number of high profile projects and frameworks nationwide, including Cambridge to Huntingdon A14 upgrade and Smart Motorways programme through the Collaborative Delivery Framework for Highways England, Cross Rail, Great Western Electrification Programme, HS2 and related projects.

We are seeking an Assistant Project Planner with experience in the detailed planning of complex infrastructure projects up to £10 million in value, to be based in our Glasgow office.

This role requires a technical background in either the rail or highways industries. The successful applicant will be a part of the Project Controls Team, providing comprehensive project controls for the project teams for which they work and to the client. As a Junior Project Planner, you will report into the Senior Planner, with accountability to the specific Project Manager.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, world class project controls team. Working on some of the UK’s largest rail and highways infrastructure projects. You will be part of an experienced team that have a significant impact on the successful delivery of these multi million pound contracts, using state of the art project controls tools and techniques that provide concise information to the projects they support.

Requirements:
• A user of Primavera P6
• An understanding of either rail or highways Engineering projects and how they are designed, constructed and commissioned
• Must be able to accurately define Rail or Highways project programmes and schedules.
• Experienced Engineering Professional with a minimum HNC qualification in Mechanical/Civil Engineering.
• Member of the APM preferred but not essential
• Experience in the use of Primavera Project Planner – Enterprise versions.
• Must be able to work under own initiative in the production of Project Programmes and Tender Programmes.
• Develop broad technical competence and able to check work of all those in the project team
• Experience of interfaces with engineering disciplines with minimal supervision
• Experience in preparing project resource histograms, and performance analysis data, and CPI/SPI information.
• Must demonstrate an understanding of Project Controls Techniques including, budget and spend management, change control, Earned Value Management, data analysis, trend analysis and Work Package Management.


Responsibilities:
• You will be responsible for all aspects of the Projects schedule and project controls requirements.
• Responsible for completion of projects to time and cost
• Able to assign work to other project planners and reliably manage members of the Project Controls team
• Familiar with commercial and financial aspects of project management
• Regular client contact
• Building relationships with limited set of common clients
• Good understanding of Rail or Highways technologies and markets
• Provision of project performance data, project schedules in a concise and timely manner as required by the projects teams.
• Successful in identifying any project deviations, slippage reports and communication of same to the senior members of the team.
• Ensuring that all issues within the programme are highlighted and understood by Senior Management and giving appropriate planning advice.
• You will deliver the Period Programme Update and information regarding changes and delays that have impacted the programme on a period by period basis.
• You will deliver the necessary reports to allow Senior Managers to direct the project appropriately.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
