Atkins have recently enjoyed a number of major project wins including East West Rail Phase 2. This is a multi-disciplined project to reintroduce rail services between Bicester, Aylesbury and Bletchley on a new 100mph twin track railway.
Atkins are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious engineer into our Transportation Systems Practice (Rail Signalling) to be an Assistant Signalling Project Engineer / Signalling Project Engineer, working on the East West Rail project
Atkins has one of the UK Rail industry’s largest signalling engineering teams and as such you will be joining our Transportation Systems Practice which comprises a team of approximately 200 professional signalling and telecommunications designers, project engineers and engineering managers. This, together with Atkins broader cross discipline capability and our Global Design Centre, means our engineers have an unrivalled collective knowledge to tap into and learn from.
This role is that of a Assistant Signalling Project Engineer / Signalling Project Engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within our signalling development section. This role will initially be working within both the Development and Implementation areas of the EWR project.
Primary functions include :
- Supporting the engineering integration team and coordinating the engineering tasks for small packages of work
- Resolving engineering issues both on site and with design teams
- Attendance at regular engineering meetings including presenting items as required
- Preparing for and supporting / running inter disciplinary design reviews
- Preparing Technical Instructions, contributing to risk assessments and writing technical reports
- Liaising with client engineers
- Supporting or leading with site surveys
- Assisting in the preparation of estimates and tender documentation
- Creating and managing of trackers / registers for engineering deliverables
- Working with established document management systems
- Reviewing design information within the 3D models used for design integration
- Production /collation of O&M manuals and H&S Files
- Supporting design, test, construction, project management as required, including opportunities to go trackside undertaking Assistant Testing duties during commissioning periods.
- Working collaboratively within a co-located project office
REQUIREMENTS
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- 2-5 years experience in an engineering discipline with some signalling design, construction, testing or maintenance knowledge
- HNC / HND / Degree or other technical qualification, preferable electrical or electronic
- Competance with IT software including msoffice packages
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Holds an IRSE Licence(s) or working towards one.
- Experience of working on site
- Undertaken a railway training scheme (e.g. Apprenticeship / graduate programme)
- Hold a current UK driving License
- Fit and able to work trackside / hold PTS
- Experience of viewing and interrogating design information (2D & 3D)

LOCATION
This role will be based from our Birmingham office. However significant attendance on site will be a requirement and flexibility regarding working location will be essential.
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
