Atkins works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, and due to growth in this sector we are currently seeking a graduate level modeller to join our established wastewater team based in Peterborough. The successful candidate will be supporting the delivery of a wide range of drainage infrastructure projects, both UK and overseas, involving the technical input into projects, including the assessment of sewer and urban drainage systems, project management assistance and liaison with other offices, clients and staff.



The Individual

The successful individual will be looking to learn and develop technically, working towards a professional qualification – either ICE or CIWEM. They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project roles, taking on an appropriate level of responsibility when required. They will be knowledgeable about changes in the Water Industry and implications on design and performance criteria.

Requirements

Qualifications

Engineering/water management related degree or equivalent experience

Essential Criteria

• 1-2 years’ water industry experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Excellent Communication Skills – oral and written
• Proactive and motivated to develop technical knowledge and experience
• Keen interest and appreciation of the UK Water Industry
• Excellent team working

Desirable Criteria

• Wastewater modelling using InfoWorks CS
• Experience working with bespoke software and programming such as FME and Visual Basic.
• Geographic Information systems (MapInfo/ArcView)
• Full UK driving licence (clean)

Responsibilities

• Development of sewer system models to investigate deficiencies and generation of outline solutions.
• Development of 1D and 2D models to investigate flood risk and flooding mechanisms.
• Analysis of sewerage related operational data
• Support development of technical reports and other project deliverables
• Scope and Undertake site asset surveys for physical and condition assessments
• Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments
• Create innovative tools to support the digital drive within the Water industry

Training

Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual appraisal process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview
