With a key focus on growth in our Nuclear New Build market sector, we are currently recruiting for an Associate Architect with demonstrable experience at a senior level and with good client facing and business development skills.

The role will report directly to the Architectural, Energy Sector Business head. You will have worked as an Associate Architect or Associate Director for an established architectural or other design practice and have your name against significant projects. This role will focus on the delivery of our growth strategy and will include the utilisation of your work winning and design ability to secure and deliver complex and high value design commissions within the Nuclear sector.

Successful candidates should be familiar with the full construction process from business development through to bidding and project delivery - including the commercial management of projects. Candidates should be able to demonstrate appropriate levels of SQUEP in the sector and will understand that the role will mean travel within the UK and will be based on site at clients offices


Responsibilities

Design Management
• To inspire a team through strong and appropriate leadership
• To ensure design response are pragmatic and respond to the client brief whilst respecting the opportunities and constraints that each site affords, through climate, context and culture.
• Taking ownership of individual schemes and taking them through from inception to completion.
• Preparing quickly feasibility options for various projects and working with other disciplines to test the validity of designs.
• Preparing concept scheme designs from Client briefs.
• Working as part of a team in the preparation of production information and working drawing packages.

• Client facing responsibilities.


Business Management
• Lead projects as Technical Director/Design Manager.
• To provide design and technical leadership for major projects
• Liaison with key clients and be capable of discussing design/technical solutions to stakeholders including technical and non-technical clients – both in projects and at tender stage
• Successful delivery of projects to a high level of quality and Client satisfaction acting as Lead Consultant/Design Manager
• The opportunity to work within our national business to win and deliver work and with these opportunities there will be a requirement for flexibility in respect of travel and location based on the demands of project work.


Commercial Management
• Strategic vision of the market and industry and ability to focus our business to take full advantage of market conditions
• Detailed knowledge of our competitors, understand our market differentiators and help to shape them
• Extensive experience in preparing bids and tendering

 

People Leadership
• Proven team management skills and experience
• Development of the design culture and capability of our multi disciplinary design team(s)
• An inclusive leader with a confident operating style who is able to deal with diversity within the teams that they manage
• A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator with the ability to influence others
• Be able to work calmly under pressure and lead, inspire and motivate our teams

 

Business Development
• To lead and support business development and work winning/bidding within the airport sector.
• Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key clients and prospective clients
• Proven track record of winning and developing new business opportunities
• Identifying opportunities and supporting the development of winning bids for projects in the education sector both single discipline and multi disciplinary

 

Requirements
• Part III Qualified Architect,
• Ability to be Security Cleared to be able to work on UK Nuclear New Build projects,
• Experience of working on projects within various sectors including Nuclear, Industrial and Commercial
• Passion for design and interest in developments within the Architecture industry,
• Passion for Detail and finding Technical solutions to Clients Requirements,
• Working Knowledge of software’s including REVIT, AutoCAD Architecture, and SketchUp desirable,
• Experience of producing concept designs.
• Able to draw ‘free hand’ sketches and illustrate to a high level.
• Capable of working and completing tasks independently as well as demonstrating a strong team work skills,
• Able to present information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders
• Able to demonstrate an adaptable approach to your role

Training
Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual appraisal process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
