The MEP Associate will report to the Design Director and be responsible for Principal, Senior and Junior Engineers within a Design Group. They are responsible for the development and implementation of the highest levels of technical excellence within their delivery environment/specialist area throughout the design centre and into the Global Design Centre in Bangalore.


The MEP Associate will be highly technically skilled in their discipline, and have a proven track record of delivery on major multi-disciplinary projects. They shall promote design excellence and best practice in the field of building services engineering. The candidate should also have a good understanding of other disciplines and be capable of leading MEP meetings and workshops.


In addition to this technical role, they are also charged with resource control, and ensuring that the team deliver an excellent service with good commercial results. MEP Associates are responsible for ensuring Atkins QA/QC protocols are carried out by their Design Group in accordance with the Atkins Design Principles.


MEP Associates are responsible for leading the MEP delivery on selected projects through leading a team of MEP designers, client management and coordination with other disciplines. They are responsible for the effective delivery across all project stages including stages being delivered by the Global Design Centre.


MEP Associates are tasked with developing and fostering external and internal client relationships and providing regional technical and enquiry/bid support for their discipline under the auspices of the Design Director.


The position is predominantly based from the Dubai design office with a requirement to attend client meetings offsite, visit site locations, visit Atkins offices overseas and work closely with other Atkins offices to develop relationships with clients and Atkins colleagues. The work will generally cover Middle East projects.


Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of technical excellence within a Design Group under the auspices of the Design Director;
  • Take responsibility for commercial management and technical quality of all projects within a Design Group/Project Team;
  • Plan the Design Group’s resources to ensure that the team deliver an excellent service with good commercial results across all projects;
  • Be a champion for digital engineering to support the Design Group’s transition to a digital design environment, and adoption of the Atkins Design process and principles;
  • Act as the MEP Project Lead on selected projects, including client and team management and ensure that projects are delivered effectively by the Design Group and the Global Design Centre (GDC);
  • Ensure that the Design Group complies with Atkins QA/QC (BMS) procedures and facilitate the implementation of these procedures;
  • Ensure that the Design Group works in an integrated and innovative manner that positively contributes to the core principles and the policies set by the Design Centre Dubai Management Team;
  • Identify technical training, development and support system requirements to the Design Director;
    Provide technical leadership to the Global Design Centre (GDC) and be the main point of contact for the discipline to ensure continual improvement and technical excellence;
  • Keep up to date with global industry developments in order to develop, implement and govern global technical standards, processes and programs, maintain best practice and develop innovation;
  • Actively contribute to the Design Group’s career development, including conducting meaningful inductions, Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) and performance management reviews;
    Develop and foster external and internal client relationships; and
  • Manage Proposals (as directed by the Design Director).


Atkins has been established in the Gulf for over 40 years, having first carried out design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967. The regional head office (Dubai) was established in 1979.

  • Degree qualified (as a minimum) in a relevant discipline;
  • Minimum 15 years post graduate experience in a Design Group core discipline;
  • Member of a Chartered institution (or equivalent) with associated relevant experience;
  • Complete familiarity with all steps of the Atkins design process from pre-concept to tender/contract documentation;
  • Complete familiarity with Atkins site construction documentation, forms of contract;
  • Excellent team management and communication skills;
  • Commercial awareness and Knowledge of the Atkins Commercial Systems;
  • In depth knowledge of the Atkins BMS systems and protocols;
  • Ensure compliance with ITTO and RFP instructions;
  • Understands the importance of accuracy and has high attention to detail;
  • Customer focused, passionate about exceeding the requirements of internal and external stakeholders;
  • A confident presenter;
  • Demonstrate excellent planning and time management skills; and
  • Adaptive influencing skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, persuasion and the courage to challenge.
