Associate or Chief Marine Geoscientist/Geophysicist

We have a great opportunity in our UK team for an ambitious Marine Geoscientist, Energy Geoscientist or Marine Geophysicist to join our experienced and dynamic team, to help deliver a range of projects, primarily in the offshore renewables sector.

Within AtkinsRéalis’ Ground Engineering & Tunnelling business, you will join our Marine Geo-team, and work with Geophysicists, Geoscientists and Engineering Geologists to provide offshore ground modelling, geohazard and offshore geophysical consultancy services. You will play a key role on some of our most challenging projects, acting as Technical Reviewer or Project Manager on ground modelling scopes of work for the offshore renewables, subsea cables and hydrogen storage markets globally.

Location: Epsom, Croydon, Glasgow.

The role:

The successful applicant will be a Marine Geoscientist or Marine Geophysicist with a proven track record and greater than ten years post-graduate industry and/or academic experience preferred.

Your day-to-day role may include the following activities:

  • Acting as Technical Reviewer for Marine Geoscience, Offshore Ground Modelling and Marine Geophysics related projects.
  • Managing, motivating and mentoring junior members of the Marine Geoscience and Geophysics team.
  • Acting as bid manager for strategic marine geoscience, geophysics or cables related bids.
  • Representing AtkinsRéalis at industry events.
  • Developing a network of business contacts to contribute to the growth of the Marine Geoscience technical network.
  • Developing and overseeing technical investment tasks and initiatives.
  • Mentoring of early career team members in Marine Geoscience workflows.

Candidates should have:

  • A strong academic background with a relevant degree (ideally MSc or equivalent) with geophysics and marine geoscience content.
  • Chartered Status with the Geological Society or the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT).
  • Ability to act as Technical Reviewer or Technical Lead for Marine Geoscience and Geophysics projects, including, for example, offshore ground models, geophysical interpretations and geophysical survey specifications.
  • Project management – experience and understanding of the needs and approaches of geoscience consultancy in the offshore wind, subsea cables and hydrogen storage sectors.
  • Proven track record of developing strong relationships with clients, and of leading work planning and commercial management.
  • Strong applied background and experience in Marine Geology, Energy Geoscience and/or Geophysics.
  • Extensive experience of acting as a Marine Geoscientist or Marine Geoscientist in a related field, such as offshore renewables, offshore geophysical survey, research or O&G.
  • Ability to lead and develop marine geoscience and geophysics project teams.
  • Proven experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong ability to assess complex geological and/or geophysical problems and provide guidance to the wider team.
  • Experience in the use of seismic interpretation software.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to independently review others’ work.

The following qualities are desirable:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent experience is an advantage.
  • Experience or academic background in the geology of glaciated terrains and glacial depositional environments.
  • Experience in the use of IHS Kingdom or DUG Insight software.
  • Experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software (ArcGIS, QGIS or similar).
  • Ability to provide technical leadership on offshore geophysical or geotechnical survey scopes of work.
