The Aerospace & Defence Market in ADS&T delivers single and multi-disciplinary engineering and business change projects across all sectors of the market. Our strength is in the scale, depth and diversity of our offering. We support our clients throughout the equipment life cycle, from research and technical demonstration programmes, to support to industry and deployed platforms.

We are seeking a Bid Manager at the Bristol office to support the growth we are experiencing in the Engineering Deliver Partner framework contract we operate as part of Team Aurora. The role will be for 1 year and will provide an ideal stepping stone for those considering moving from a technical or project management career path into business development.

Day to day direction will be provided by a Delivery/Bid Director, with support and personal development being provided by the ADS&T Bidding and Sales team. The scope of bid opportunities will be diverse and include bids into the various operating centres of Defence Equipment and Support (Land, Sea, Air equipment), plus the Front Line Commands (Army, Navy & RAF).

Primary responsibilities:

The Bid Manager is responsible for the timely submission of a compliant bid to the customer, whilst ensuring that all required agreements and approvals are achieved prior to the submission. The bid Manager ensures that the bid is run in accordance with Atkins best practice and win work processes.

Specific responsibilities:

The following responsibilities will be tailored to the size of the bid opportunity:

Win Strategy
• Work with the Bid Director in establishing and testing the win strategy, including co-ordinating and supporting any required customer relationship and stakeholder management campaign activities.
• Scheduling and co-ordinating activities necessary to identify customer issues, hot buttons and the associated win themes and win strategy statements. Scheduling and co-ordinating activities necessary to develop the proposed solution and identify any technical design and/or commercial and/or programme constraints.

Bid Plan
• The Bid Manager is the owner of the Bid Plan and has overall responsibility for achieving the objective of producing a compelling proposal, on time and within an agreed bid budget. This includes: Identifying the resources required to undertake bid preparation and delivery activities; highlighting any resource, skill or capability gaps.
• Defining and agreeing a bid budget and schedule baseline (with the Bid Director), and controlling the bid budget and schedule against these agreed baselines.
• Planning, organising and scheduling activities in accordance with Bid best practice, including the scheduling of any applicable Pink, Red and Gold Team activities and the allocation of appropriately qualified Reviewers.
• Ensuring all necessary information, guidelines and supporting documentation is available to successfully undertake Pink, Red and Gold Team activities as applicable. Planning, organising and scheduling activities necessary to comply with the Service Delivery Process, including the attendance of appropriately authorised Approvers.
• Ensuring all necessary information and documentation is available to successfully undertake Service Delivery Process Stage Gate Reviews and gaining the requisite approvals.

Content Plan
• The Bid Manager is responsible for the design and development of the Content Plan such that the Bid Response document is in full compliance to the customer's stated requirements and best emphasises the Atkins proposition. This includes the co-ordination and management of:
• The dissemination of information to all members of the Bid Team.
• The scope, quality and timeliness of input received from Bid Authors and Contributors.
• The identification and provision of boilerplate and collateral information - such as case studies, CVs and company policy/procedure documents.
• The Atkins brand compliance and customer requirements compliance of the Bid Response document.

Essential Criteria

• Previous experience of bid management / tendering process
• Sufficient and appropriate knowledge of commercial / procurement processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational skills
• A driven individual capable of motivating multi-disciplinary teams to meet bid deadlines.

Desirable Criteria

• Defence market knowledge
• Experience of the ADS&T bidding process
• Shipley trained
• Strong Project Management track record

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
