Duties & Essential Job Functions
The Structural BIM Lead is a key appointment supporting Atkins’ strategy for digital engineering transformation. The successful candidate will be embedded with Atkins structures department supporting and promoting the effective use of BIM tools and processes on projects such as Hong Kong Airport’s 3rd Runway and other major international infrastructure projects. An in-depth knowledge of BIM tools such as Revit, Navisworks and familiarity with analysis tools such as ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, etc… is required, to support the integration of BIM modelling and design by the structures team. The ability to use or learn Dynamo scripting is also a key skill requirement.

  • Software
  1. Expert in use of Revit Structures, worksharing, family development, model management and maintenance, scheduling, 2D drawing extraction
  2. In-depth knowledge of Navisworks, search sets, clash rules, reporting, model management
  3. Understanding of Revit Server and Collaboration for Revit
  4. Stay informed on best practices for use of Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks and other BIM tools in use by Atkins
  5. Stay informed on other BIM related software and how they work with Atkins BIM tools
  6. Knowledge of CAD tools such as AutoCAD and MicroStation would also be useful
  7. Highly IT literate, excellent command of standard office software, knowledge of IT infrastructure and hardware
  • Standards
  1. Study and develop a thorough understanding of Atkins corporate CAD and BIM standards, and the contracts and standards of projects executed in BIM
  2. Provide support for electronic file submissions
  3. Provide quality control for compliance to company/project standards of deliverables
  4. Assist in developing and enforcing BIM documentation and workflow process standards
  • Supervision
  1. Manage the 2D drawing production from BIM models, which is typically delivered by BIM Technicians
  • Support
  1. Provide over the shoulder support for engineers developing models and the BIM technicians developing the 2D drawing extractions.
  2. Troubleshoot problems related to BIM models, software and production
  • Training
  1. Conduct training reviews, staff assessments and identify skills gaps
  2. Provide technical orientation of new hires regarding Atkins BIM process and workflows
  3. Maintain a high level of competency of all BIM software tools used at Atkins
  4. Continuous professional development through attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops for BIM
  • Project Interface
  1. Work with the BIM Manager and project teams to assist in the development and implementation of BIM strategies, BIM Execution Plans, workflows and processes on projects in accordance with Atkins Corporate Standards, Client requirements and industry best practice
  2. Be responsible for BIM execution Plan implementation and enforcement within the Structures team
  3. Assist project teams in BIM project setup
  4. Help resolve BIM design issues in collaboration with other BIM Leads and the design team
  5. Manage the Structures team Common Data Environment (CDE) of the project, and the distribution of coordinated digital documents to the project teams
  • Involvement in Industry Organisations
  1. Professional Membership of HKIBIM
  2. Local user groups (AIAB, HKRUG) 

A recognised qualification in a construction discipline or equivalent experience will be required, in addition to extensive BIM skills.

Candidate with more experience will be considered as BIM Manager
