Atkins seeks a Business Development Manager in our Alternative Delivery Group (ADG) for our North American operations out of any one of our Alexandria(VA), Orlando(FL), Tampa(FL), Atlanta(GA), Henderson(NV), Orange (CA), Atlanta(GA), Phoenix(AZ) or Denver(CO) offices. In this role you will have the opportunity to have a significant impact on the growth of Atkins’ alternative delivery (AD) practice in North America. Our AD practice in transportation spans multiple service sectors, including highways and bridges, transit and rail, tolling, ITS, aviation, ports and construction management. The candidate will report directly to Atkins’ Alternative Delivery Director within the office of the COO. You will have the opportunity to leverage more than 3,000 staff in these sectors to pursue and capture design-build and PPP project opportunities across the U.S. The candidate may serve as Capture Manager on multiple pre-award assignments.
The candidate will have proven experience in pursuing and winning design-build and P3 projects and directing and managing capture/pre-award services for design-build and P3 projects. The candidate will have proven experience developing and nurturing key contractor and concessionaire client relationships to build partnerships and secure new business.
The candidate will be responsible for directing activities associated with both pre-award phases of alternative delivery projects as listed below. The candidate must be able to influence performance by effective collaboration with business unit sector managers (BUSMs), business development and sales (BD&S) managers, business unit BD directors, national capture director, AD director, and AD project directors.
Develops and nurtures key contractor and concessionaire client relationships to build partnerships and secure new business. Keeps abreast of federal, regional and state initiatives and identifies and develops leads on potential opportunities, working closely with business unit sector managers (BUSMs), business development and sales (BD&S) managers, business unit BD directors and AD Director to ensure opportunities are consistent with company vision, strategy and business goals. Assesses potential markets and develops recommendations for entry into new geographies and markets. Leads AD Group coordination efforts with BD&S and Marketing/Communications groups during pre-award phase. May lead RFQ phase of procurement, serve as capture manager during bid phase of procurement, and assist AD Project Directors during pre-award phase. May lead technical writing efforts of design team and participate in proposal review teams with builders. May lead or participate in go/no go calls with Atkins major project board to ensure opportunities are scrutinized against company risk profile, strategic plans and other commercial and business parameters.
May serve as capture manager on select large or complex assignments.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management. Graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus. This level may be achieved by technical professionals or managers with fifteen years of experience since B.S. or fourteen years since M.S. Experience with unconventional or complex project made up of 3 or more highly sophisticated and specialized technical components generating annual net revenue exceeding $25 million annually required.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management. Excellent technical and interpersonal skills, public speaking and persuasive ability; very strong financial management, team management, and leadership skills; ability to manage and coordinate efforts of various projects to produce budgeted profits and overall results.
Five (5) years of specific experience in capture or pre-award phase of design-build and/or P3 projects. Successful completion of capture management role resulting in winning at least two design-build or P3 projects where one of the projects was in excess of $250 million in construction value.
Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach that permits effective communication amongst leadership, management, clients, project managers and staff.
Enthusiastic and resilient attitude with drive to achieve and maximize opportunities.
Must be willing to accept significant amount of travel within the U.S. with potential for periodic temporary duty when assigned to large pursuit or project. May be requested to temporarily relocate for large DB projects in the US for durations of one year or more.
P.E. license required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
DBIA certification a plus.
PMP certification a plus.
