The Atkins Civil Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our Phoenix, AZ office as a Civil CAD Designer II.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
  • Under general supervision of the lead technical professional(s), provides a high degree of sophistication and expertise in the performance of varied and highly complex computer-assisted drafting and civil design work to support the technical services of the Phoenix office, as well as other offices around the country. 
  • Performs independent design work on civil infrastructure projects using Civil 3D CAD software.

JOB DUTIES
  • Performs varied and highly complex computer-aided drafting and independent design work. 
  • Incumbents at this level regularly exercise judgment and exhibit a high degree of sophistication and expertise both in design work and equipment knowledge and utilization. 
  • Work involves analytical ability for handling technical details, such as using mathematical formulas, interpreting semi-complex ordinances and specifications, and analyzing design requirements.


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent technical discipline plus five years' experience, or Associate's degree plus a minimum of twelve years' progressive drafting and design experience, including at least four as a Designer, or HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of fifteen years progressive drafting and design experience, including at least seven as a Designer.
  • Strong knowledge of sat and local codes and ordinances, design inputs codes and standards.
SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Excellent technical judgment and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and to give work direction to others. 
  • Strong math skill, manual dexterity and computer user skills required. Expertise in CAD production technologies required. 
  • Experience with Civil 3D, including pipe networks and corridors, a must. 
  • Experience with MicroStation a plus.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with infrastructure design (e.g. waterlines, sanitary sewer lines, storm drains, roadways, retention facilities, etc.) required. 
  • Grading design experience, including determining earthwork quantities, a plus. 
  • Must be familiar with local design standards and requirements. 
  • Must be able to take direction from the lead technical professional(s) to prepare civil improvement plans and perform quantity takeoffs on a variety of civil engineering projects. 
  • Experience with ProjectWise a plus.
