Civil Inspector

Responsibilities: 

• Keep, monitor and follow up as necessary and maintain complete record(s) concerning the execution of the works.
• Carry out the final inspection for certification of final completion and handing over of the works.
• Inspect the work done by the contractor(s) to ascertain that work is executed in accordance with the Contract Documents and accepted practise
• Inspect the on-site and off-site materials to be used in the project and organise field and laboratory tests, conducted by others, on construction materials to ascertain their compliance with the specifications and determine it acceptability for use on the project.
• Identify potential safety concerns and inform the contractor (s).
• Implement the site supervision quality procedures, and review submission requirements of the project, along with the contractor.
• Ensure that all statutory authority NOC’s / permits / design approvals are available on site for construction.
• Raise non-conformance notices (NCNs)/reports; site inspections notices (SINs) identify quality deficiencies in conjunction with the Resident Engineer.
• Review the corrective actions proposed by the contractor, respond / follow ups and close out procedure
• Carry out the final inspection for certification of final completion and handing over of the works.
• Supervise route issues including Hand Hole clean up, sign placement, and weed control.
• Prepare List of activity-specific environmental issues related to your site and their likely impact
• Determine the actions required to manage each work instruction
• Ensure that the execution of any work shall not block and subsequently unsettle the existing overland water flow or the existing system of drains.
• Inspection of the trench and Ensure the readiness of the trench prior to backfilling.
• Supervise the concrete mixing process and Manhole casting.
• Create ‘no go’ zones around hazardous areas and implement safe work distances.
• Inspect and verify the soil classification/s eg Examining a pilot hole’s dug by the Contractors
• Note changes in plans of gradient and/or direction
• Verify HH / MH positions
• Note road / rail crossings
• Record crossings with other services eg crossing Conflict
• record the presence of structures near the trench
• Inspection of the trenching, trench width, location of the marking tape and marker post allocations
• Insure proper excavation and preparation of the trench
• Proper verification of the required trenching Near Kerbs, Guttering, Paving and Driveway Crossing
• Good Knowledge of Steep Gradient Trenching
• Good Knowledge of Road Barricading and Traffic lights control 
• Good Knowledge of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
• Where the depth of a trench exceeds 1.2m and workers need to enter the trench, adequate measures must be taken by the contractor to provide support for this trench. It’s the responsibility of the civil inspectors to check and verify the works.
