Civil / Structural Engineer

As a result of continued growth in our Westlakes, Cumbria office, we are looking to recruit experienced civil/structural engineers with a proven track record in the production of engineering/technical deliveries. Experience in the Nuclear Industry would be preferable, but is not essential.

Our Westlakes office is located on the outskirts of the stunning Lake District National Park. Based near Sellafield – one of the world’s most complex nuclear sites -. In our client-facing role, we deliver a wide variety of projects working closely with the client engineering and construction teams. You will gain valuable experience in many areas of civil and structural engineering including the design of new steelwork and reinforced concrete structures to support decommissioning activities. Many of our projects include a construction support role providing the opportunity to gain invaluable site experience and witness the designs you have worked on turn into reality.

The Westlakes office vision is to be a UK centre of excellence in digital engineering. We have a strong ethos for training and implementing exciting new techniques, striving to increase the efficiency and quality of our technical delivery and impress the client with visualisation tools (3D animations, VR etc.). We work alongside our mechanical and electrical teams, giving graduates opportunities to learn and deliver simple engineering solutions to complex multidisciplinary problems. We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working candidates with a real capacity for teamwork, strong technical ability and an interest in digital tools. The opportunities to gain excellent experience, develop new and exciting skills and progress towards chartership in this team are exceptional for a motivated candidate with a willingness and a drive for development.


Responsibilities

• Undertake analysis of structures and design of elements in all major materials.
• Be customer focused with client liaison experience.
• To lead small teams of junior Engineers and Technicians in the technical design and delivery of calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.
• To assist successful delivery of projects, work to meet targets, work within budget and programme.
• Candidates should have a good technical background, including first principles analysis and knowledge and use of relevant UK and international codes and standards (Eurocodes).

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering or related discipline (Master level preferred).
• Previous engineering design/analytical experience is essential (5+ years).
• Good standard of written English and the ability to write clear technical reports.
• Undertaking detailed design solutions in accordance with the relevant British Standards/International codes.
• Reasonable level of commercial awareness and demonstrate the ability to work within budget and programme.
• Highly motivated and proactive, have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively.
• Liaise with Project Manager to deliver project.
• Based in the Cumbria (Whitehaven) office.

Desirable

• A high level of relevant experience as a lead Civil and Structural Engineer.
• Design and analysis experience of structures under dynamic loading e.g. seismic, impact, blast is desirable. (Experience on US codes is desirable).
• Working in multi-disciplinary teams on high value construction projects.
• Innovative and open to ideas.
• Flexible in approach, willing to travel to work on client sites.
• Knowledge of AUTOCAD 3D/REVIT or similar 3D software.
• Security Cleared (preferred).
• Nuclear background.
