Civil / Structural Engineering Team Leader

The Role:  We are looking for a Civil Engineering Team Leader or an experienced Civil/Structural engineer who is looking to take the next step into a team leader/management position. As the Civils Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of Civil/Structural design engineers as well as engaging with clients, developing new and existing relationships and opportunities, directing or managing bids and delivering project outcomes to delighted clients.

 

The Work: Our Transportation business is currently we are working on a number of high profile projects and frameworks nationwide, including Cambridge to Huntingdon A14 upgrade and Smart Motorways programme through the Collaborative Delivery Framework for Highways England, Cross Rail, Great Western Electrification Programme, HS2 and related projects. In addition to supporting our major projects, our local business faces several Local Authorities, supporting our Clients to maintain and improve both their networks and highway assets.



The Responsibilities:  

  • Contributing to management of a delivery Practice.
  • Line management of staff, including mentoring and supporting the development of the team.
  • Winning and delivering projects with our key clients by:
    • Engaging with clients to develop and share client knowledge.
    • Identifying, tracking and developing opportunities.
    • Preparing and managing winning bids with regards to both quality and price.
    • Leading or managing project teams to deliver both client and Atkins desired programme, quality and commercial outcomes.
  • Embodying safety leadership to develop behavioural safety on projects and in teams.
  • Ensuring work is “right first time” through implementing technical and quality assurance.
  • Maintaining a knowledge base of current and future developments in the transportation field and sharing this with a wide group of infrastructure professionals.
  • Working collaboratively both internally within the Atkins Group and externally with Clients and Contractors.

The Successful Candidate Will Possess….

  • Appropriate academic and professional qualifications, (e.g. CEng ICE/IStructE) with solid experience in a leading project role.
  • A track record of excellent project delivery on programme, deliverable quality and risk management with excellent client feedback.
  • Experience of working with our key clients, e.g. Local Authorities, Highways England, Network Rail, developers and major contractors.
  • Experience of developing successful bids.
  • Proven ability to maintain relevant skills and knowledge and pass these on to others.
  • The ability to lead and manage collaborative work and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to meet programme and budget targets and deliver agreed commercial outcomes.
  • Demonstrable passion for safety leadership.

Desirable skills/experience would be…..

  • Knowledge of Sales Excellence or similar opportunity development techniques.
  • Experience and flexibility to work across both roads and rail sectors.
  • Experience of business process improvement techniques, for example, Lean Construction.
  • Experience of construction and contract management (NEC 3) and supervision.
  • Line management experience.
