Atkins works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, and due to growth in this sector we are currently seeking a Clean Water Modeller to join our established water team based in Peterborough. The successful candidate will be supporting the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure projects, both UK and overseas, involving the technical input into projects, including the computer hydraulic modelling, use of Geographic Information Systems, data analysis, project management assistance and liaison with other offices, clients and staff.



The Individual

The successful individual will be a clean water modeller with at least two years of previous modelling experience and be familiar with industry standard modelling software such as InfoWorks / Synergi / InfoWater / EPANET.

The candidate will be looking to learn and develop technically to take the next step in their water modelling career and will be working towards a professional qualification through either ICE or CIWEM. They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project roles, taking on an appropriate level of responsibility when required. They will be knowledgeable about changes in the Water Industry and implications on design and performance criteria.

Essential Criteria:
  • Recent experience of clean water modelling using InfoWorks / Synergi / InfoWater / EPANETProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent Communication Skills – oral and written
  • Proactive and motivated to develop technical knowledge and experience
  • Keen interest and appreciation of the UK Water Industry
  • Excellent team working
  • Experience of clean water field testing and monitoring
  • Clean Water Hygiene card / NRWSA qualifications
Desirable Criteria:
  • 2+ years’ water industry experience
  • Experience working with programming software such as FME and Visual Basic.
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (MapInfo/ArcGIS)
  • Full UK driving licence (clean)
Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of projects as part of a team as well as on individual assignments as required
  • Management and coordination of field testing required for model validation and calibration
  • Building hydraulic models for a variety of water companies
  • Using hydraulic models for planning and operational purposes
  • Investigation and resolution of water infrastructure issues through the development of design solutions 
  • Interacting with Clients and other stakeholders during face to face meetings
  • Data analysis and anomaly identification
  • Technical report writing
  • Proactive commitment to Health and Safety

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
