Job Description

Atkins Infrastructure division are looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to provide commercial support to Cities & Development sector teams across our Midlands & South West region.

As Commercial Manager you will focus on providing commercial support to the regional Cities & Development team and to the wider Infrastructure division as required. The role will include contract reviews and advice, but just as important is for the Commercial Manager to provide commercial leadership, sound guidance and innovative commercial solutions.

Atkins Infrastructure division is an organisation of 3,000 people with circa £300m annual turnover, delivering consultancy advice and design on wide portfolio of projects. The division is divided into three main Markets: Cities & Development, Water and ADE (Aviation, Defence and Energy). The Cities & Development market, with annual turnover of around £110m, is predominantly focused on commercial, education, residential, institutional and land development projects.

Midlands, South West and Wales region role can be based from Birmingham, Bristol or Oxford

Main Responsibilities:

• Responsibility for commercial management in the C&D Market; including support to Project Directors in management of the full life cycle of bidding and project delivery;
• Working collaboratively with Senior Commercial Management and Operations Directors to deliver commercial aspects of the overall divisional objectives.
• Provide commercial education, training, guidance and be point of contact for support to the sub market delivery and management teams;
• Management of Market issues including risks, Active Risk Management (ARM), claims and disputes;

Key Role of a Market Commercial Manager:

• Supporting the respective Market to ensure delivery of projects to suitable contractual arrangements and the required commercial outcome;
• Review of proposed consultancy contracts for bids to recommend solutions and identify terms, that may be a risk to the business and that require Group approval, this will include other documents e.g. Confidentiality Agreements, Collateral Warranties, Contracts & Deeds etc;
• Support the Regional Directors and Project teams and the market on commercial negotiation with suppliers, contractors and clients;
• Support/Steer Stage Gates and Approvals. Under take the role of Stage Gate Reviewer.

• Monthly review of risks to update a Risk Management database (ARM) for their Sub Market.
• Work with the Market Regional and Operations Directors to ensure that appropriate resource is allocated, and action taken to manage the notification and defence of disputes and claims, provide advice and support.

Requirements:

• Appropriate Degree and/or appropriate professional qualification;

• Experience in a commercial and project management role balancing competing priorities within an engineering consultancy or within a similar sector;
• Post graduate/ professional qualifications in Project Management and Construction Law would be an advantage but not essential;
• Customer facing experience with a “win-win” philosophy and “can-do” attitude;
• Experience of working in a Design and Build environment would be an advantage;
• Experience of different forms of professional consultancy contract - such as NEC 3 PSC - is preferred;
• Good communicator at all levels, able to promote development of Atkins profile;


This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
