As AtkinsRéalis transition from a traditional consultancy business model to a blended mix with major projects we seek to enhance our high performing Commercial Team in Nuclear & Power (Europe, Middle East & Africa Region).

On the one hand, this role demands analytic and problem-solving skills, which require a practical numbers-oriented mind. But the more important aspect of your role is that it requires an individual with strong interpersonal skills, an ability to eloquently convey complex ideas, and a good instinct for business.

Engaging early as a trusted internal business partner, you will support new business or sales opportunities through facilitating the building of winning business cases and commercialisation plans that deliver long-term sustainable and profitable growth.

This role offers the chance to be at the forefront of some of the most exciting developments in our business across a broad spectrum of existing and emerging game-changing technologies, regions and sectors from Nuclear New Build, Operations and Decommissioning to innovative Energy Net Zero initiatives including hydrogen, carbon capture and smart grids.

The role can be based at any of our UK offices (including home working) and presents the opportunity to join a larger business distributed across the UK, Europe and Middle East with the opportunity to work with colleagues internationally through our Global Design Centre.

About the Team:

As a well-established business, the focus of the Atkins Nuclear and Power business is building and developing new and existing long-term relationships with our clients in the sector.  We hold a number of long term project and framework contracts through which we deliver our clients work.

Working in the central functions you will work across the entire portfolio of the Nuclear and Power business, with the opportunity to lead and support major bids, major projects, M&A and broader business initiatives.

Nuclear:

Our unique approach is to deliver end-to-end project solutions and support for all types of Reactor technologies. Supporting all stages of the asset lifecycle we deliver:

  • New reactor design and build
  • Design services and licensing
  • Engineering and project management
  • Fuel and waste management systems
  • Field services, tooling and technology, including reactor components
  • Design and asset management of facilities and infrastructure
  • Life extension services
  • Waste management and decommissioning, including site remediation

Engineering Net Zero:

What you’ll be doing?

In a changing energy market, where the business is growing, we are seeking a Commercial Manager who can be at the forefront of leading and supporting the business in achieving its goals, whilst managing and balancing business risk.

The Role:

Working with the Commercial Managers / Director the key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Providing high quality and efficient support to the markets and their teams, throughout the Win and Deliver work cycle
  • Leading on bid and project governance including ownership of escalated approvals systems
  • Reviewing contracts and other legal documents in co-ordination with the Legal function
  • Leading on and / or supporting the markets with contract negotiations
  • Development of business cases to support new initiatives (e.g. M&A, new markets, digital, products and technologies and other investment cases)
  • Leading on the resolution of potential disputes and claims (project, insurance etc)
  • Delivery of key elements of the Risk and Commercial roadmap, supporting a wide array of commercial projects and business improvement initiatives
  • Active role in project procurement at both strategic business and project level (e.g. developing supplier and partnering strategies, setting the project procurement strategies and where required acting as project procurement manager etc)
  • Co-ordination of support functions such as Legal, HR, Tax and Treasury
  • Acting as an independent bid and project reviewer
  • Development and delivery of Lunch ‘n’ Learn, web-based and classroom training initiatives on Commercial and related topics
  • Managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining an understanding of ongoing developments in the market

The Person:

There are two key aspects of the role, one will be developing and building strong relationships with internal clients, and another will be supporting the leadership, development and progression of the commercial function. You’ll have the ability and the desire to manage teams and deliver all aspects of your work to a very high standard. You will be able to work both independently and within the team. If you come from a utility, developer or consultancy background this will be an advantage.

You’ll need to have:

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Science, Business or equivalent (mandatory)
  • Achieved Chartered status in relevant profession (desirable)

Mandatory Experience:

Required experience in the following areas:

  • Commercial Governance
  • Bidding (Knowledge & experience in the win work cycle)
  • Project and / or Business Finance
  • Contract Management
  • Project Delivery

Desirable Experience:

In addition to the mandatory requirements, we are also seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in the Nuclear, Power, Utility, Construction, Heavy Industry Sector(s)
  • International Working (France, Germany, China, Middle East)
  • Tier 1 delivery
  • M&A
  • Commercialisation of new technologies / services
  • Project Management
  • Procurement
