SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. The Water Management Consultancy part of the business operates at the interface between people and the water environment. Our key services cover all aspects of water management including: flood and coastal erosion risk management, integrated catchment management, regulation and assurance, strategic asset management, water resources and water quality planning, hydrogeology and hydrology, aquatic ecology, hydromorphology and river restoration, climate futures and resilience, coastal and marine environmental management, and economic appraisal. 

We have vacancies for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to support and grow our world class flood risk management team. Our current vacancies are for positions in Warrington, Epsom, Oxford, Glasgow, Swansea and Peterborough, although consideration will be given to exceptional candidates in other locations. We are seeking candidates capable of delivering key aspects of hydraulic modelling projects, including 1D, 2D and integrated models, as well as preparing feasibility assessments and options studies. You will also be promoting public sector projects through consultation, economics and technical feasibility, and working alongside our engineers, ecologists, environmental scientists and other technical experts in multi-disciplinary projects. You will have opportunities to work on international projects through our increasing portfolio of opportunities abroad, and with our staff in Canada, USA, India, Africa and Asia Pacific.

As a major engineering, environmental and design consultancy, Atkins offers opportunities to work on a variety of high profile projects. We have, for example, ongoing projects in flood risk management across East-West Rail, climate resilience in Sri Lanka, and extreme rainfall modelling at Hinkley C power station.


Requirements
• A degree in Geography, Science or Civil Engineering and ideally a MSc or further post graduate qualification in a relevant subject area
• Experience of 1D-2D modelling using Infoworks ICM, ISIS-TUFLOW or Flood Modeller. MIKE software experience, such as MIKE11 / MIKE flood and MIKE 21 desirable.
• Experience in carrying out flood risk analyses for planning, development, and design
• Awareness and appreciation of hydrological assessment
• GIS analytical skills in ArcGIS, MapInfo and QGIS
• Programming skills in Python and/or R, as well as VBA or other similar scripts.
• Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific writing is key. Able to adapt writing style to produce documents for different types of audience, including non-specialists
• A strong desire to learn, work with others, and develop new approaches to a wide range of challenges
• Be available to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas
• A relevant professional chartership qualification, or nearing achieving chartered status
• Engineering design experience, including undertaking scour assessments and developing scour protection is desirable, but not essential

Responsibilities
• To produce reports, as well as undertake hydraulic modelling and data analysis to support projects
• Depending on your skills, you will also be responsible for developing outline designs for our project solutions
• To support the delivery of digital products and projects within the Water Management Consultancy team and work collaboratively with other Atkins’ businesses
• To work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients
• To support business development activities including tendering for projects and client engagement
