Data Scientist (Water Management)

Our key services include: regulation and assurance; strategic asset management; water resources and water quality planning; hydrogeology and hydrology; integrated catchment management; aquatic ecology, hydromorphology and river restoration; climate futures and resilience; flood risk; coastal and marine environmental management; environmental and economic appraisal. We have vacancy for an enthusiastic and ambitious Data Scientist to support and grow within our world class Water Management Consultancy. We are seeking a candidate capable of applying and developing game changing digital tools across our key service areas, on high-profile projects in the UK and overseas.


Requirements:
• Must have a degree in a relevant discipline (Water Management is preferable or relevant environmental experience).
• Demonstrable experience in at least one of the key service areas, preferably water quality, water resource or flood risk management.
• Programming skills in Python and/or R, as well as VBA. 
• Experienced in data science and analytics for decision-making, for example using popular data science libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, ggplot, etc.
• Track record of software / digital tool development and experience with version control software (e.g. Git).
• Familiarity with cloud computing.
• Experience in developing bespoke programmes and tools in a Geographical Information System (GIS) such as using python script in QGIS and ArcGIS.
• Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific writing is key. Able to adapt writing style to produce documents for different types of audience, including non-specialists.
• A strong desire to learn, work with others and develop new approaches to a wide range of problems.
• Be available to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas.

Responsibilities
• Core contributor to our Digital Disruption offerings, revolutionising the industry.
• To support the delivery of new digital products and projects within the Water Management Consultancy Team and work collaboratively with other Atkins’ businesses.
• Depending on experience, to support or lead on delivery of key service areas, including software and digital tool development.
• To work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients.

• Good team worker, comfortable working in large teams with range of specialists with different technical backgrounds .
• Keen to learn new skills/expand knowledge into new skill areas.
