Atkins is a leader in rail engineering and systems design, providing expertise to clients from our experience and in-depth knowledge of the rail and engineering domains. Our rail services are delivered via a multidisciplinary workforce located in the UK and around the world.

The electrical team undertakes all aspects of low voltage electrical distribution associated with the railway infrastructure including building services for stations and depots and trackside schemes including signalling power supplies, points heating and level crossings.

We are currently recruiting for Design Engineers to become a key member of the team and have a high level of competency to deliver M&E designs within the Rail sector. The design works will encompass the production of technical specifications, CAD drawings and calculations under the guidance of Senior and Principal Engineers.

Please note that the salary banding for the role is between £30000 and £33000 depending on experience.

This will be based in the York office.


Responsibilities

• assesses product requirements, including costs, manufacturing feasibility and market requirements;
• Prepare design deliverable packages for professional submission including drawings, calculations and reports.
• produces final design information for use in preparation of electrical layouts, parts lists, etc;
• Integrate with and support a team of Design Engineers who undertake electrical design work within a Rail environment. Have the ability to assist a construction team, with the ability to carry out electrical testing to BS7671 an advantage.
• Undertake site surveys and the preparation of design specifications to company and Network Rail standards using Microstation/AutoCAD, Amtech Pro Design, ETAP and Microsoft Office packages
• prepares specifications for materials and other components.


Requirements

• HNC/HND/Degree Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience of the use of BS7671
• Appropriate experience working in CAD Design in a building services or infrastructure environment would be an advantage
• Sound working knowledge of Microstation V8 or later versions would be required as would experience of AutoCAD to produce electrical engineering drawings.
• Working knowledge of Amtech Pro Design package, ETAP and Dialux lighting design package would be an advantage.
• The successful applicant will be a competent user of IT tools in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
• Appropriate Rail experience in a technical design environment, would be an advantage

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
