Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Coastal Group as a Dredging Engineer. This position can sit in any Atkins North America office.

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems. On projects involving engineering services related to construction activities, has developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are translated into the constructed product. Upholds
engineering ethics and standards of conduct


JOB DUTIES

Responsibilities for the position include providing the expertise of a dredging specialist and coastal engineer to all conventional aspects of coastal engineering projects.

Performs project design; coordinates field data collection plans; participates in production of plans and specifications; develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most desirable solution; analysis technical problems, asses feasibility and devises new approaches and alternative solutions; coordinates work with project manager and guides junior staff and technical personnel; responsible for maintaining quality standards and quality control; oversees and coordinates the construction phase of dredging projects for private and municipal clients.

Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.

Performs preliminary engineering design and/or reviews the design and drafting work of junior engineers, designers or CAD technicians.

Prepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules.

Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval.

Conducts or oversees personnel involved in engineering investigations and planning work.

Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.

Plans, schedules, and conducts or coordinates construction services on projects of moderate scope.

May occasionally assist in the management of projects.

The position may require occasional travel up to 10% of the time.

May perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Ocean or Coastal Engineering is preferred, related engineering degrees will be considered.

Individual with 4-10 years of field-based experience implementing dredging and marine construction projects is preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS

An understanding of technical factors related to dredging projects including; equipment capabilities, dredge production, project scheduling, project costing, hydrographic survey, quality control, and industry safety practices are required.

Knowledge of AutoCAD and Hypack survey software is required. Experience with a variety of project types, dredge techniques, project locations, and project owners are a plus.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, technical writing and communications skills with a proven track record in successful execution of the construction-phase of dredging projects 

Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to assemble and analyze data.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position may require occasional travel up to 10% of the time.
