Ecologist/Senior Ecologist

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Provide technical support to Glasgow Ecology team and beyond;
• Manage and lead the ecological input to a varied range of projects across different sectors within deadlines and budgets;
• Lead field surveys and plan and co-ordinate reports and ecological mitigation works; and
• Manage their own time and workload effectively as part of a team with ecologists and other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree in a relevant discipline;
• Full Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM);
• Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status would be a distinct advantage, if not already chartered the applicant should be in a position to become chartered or in the process of becoming chartered.

Essential Criteria

The following criteria are essential for the role:

• Experience as an Ecologist / Senior Ecologist in a similar (e.g. consultancy) role;
• Experience in writing high quality technical reports such as Ecological Impact Assessments and protected species licences (experience of checking technical reports and proposals would be a distinct advantage);
• Experience of production of bids and winning work through client engagement (internal/external).
• Experience of project co-ordination and management of budgets;
• The applicant must demonstrate integrity, commitment, and a collaborative and pro-active approach to work with ecology team members, clients and other professionals;
•.Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills, both verbal and written; and,
• Flexibility over travel and hours (It is a requirement to be available to work in the evenings and early mornings and it may be necessary to be away from home for one or two nights per week, regularly during the survey season).
