We’re looking for the next generation of Mechanical Engineers to work on new power stations and innovative renewables concepts, extend the life of existing infrastructure and meet the world’s future energy needs.

What you’ll be doing
We have opportunities for graduates across a range of our Energy teams in the UK.  From a Mechanical Engineering related background, you could be working in one of the following teams, here’s a little about what they do;

Aberdeen –  based here you’ll be focused on projects primarily in the Oil and Gas market, as a graduate mechanical engineer you could be involved in; working with North Sea operators in supporting them in their brownfield modification projects and/or operational support work in their daily production.  This is a dynamic environment ensuring that code requirements, production efficiency and safe operations are maintained using innovative approaches to assets which, in some cases are 40 years old, operating efficiently and safely pushing your knowledge and capability to the full extent.

Bristol – Based in our Bristol office you’ll find yourself working on projects across the Nuclear, Defence and Nuclear Fusion markets. As well as various renewables markets (mainly offshore wind), Oil & Gas and other Atkins markets when required.  Some of our key projects include: Hinkley Point C; Wylfa Newydd; ITER; The Technical Support Alliance for EDF Energy Nuclear Generation; Magnox decommissioning and The Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind farm.  Based in our Bristol office, you could find yourself in one of the following teams:

Plant Systems and Safety: As a graduate engineer in this area, you will focus on nuclear mechanical system design and plant decision making. Joining this team, you could be supporting clients with safety case development, engineering design and substantiation, remote operation development, and new build design assessments.

Design and Analysis: This team concentrates on stress / structural analysis and complex mechanical / offshore design. Joining this team, you could be involved in supporting clients from initial concept design, detailed design to asset management and lifetime substantiation (including life extension / re-substantiation). we are looking for candidates who have studied mechanical (or heavily mechanical focused) engineering degrees. But are also looking for Graduates with structural integrity, materials or offshore design specialisms.

Ventilation and Air Conditioning: The HVAC team is part of the Systems & Environment group and concentrates on the systems that manage environmental hazards within buildings and structures. Joining this specialist team, you could be involved with analysis of hazards and the design of mechanical services across a wide variety of projects. The HVAC team are looking for candidates with a Mechanical Engineering degree, but also graduates with Thermofluids or Building Services specialisms. 

Derby – As a trusted advisor to the UK nuclear market, we can’t always shout about the work we’re involved with, but you can expect to play your part in major projects, such as the design of nuclear fuel handling equipment, stress analysis on safety critical pressure vessels and supporting manufacture of nuclear plant components to name but a few. With capability in mechanical design and analysis, nuclear substantiation, nuclear safety case work and manufacturing consultancy, we provide technical expertise to major nuclear companies, the defence sector, and across the wider energy market, helping them to deliver innovative and successful projects.

Rotherham (Greater Sheffield) – Based in our Rotherham office you will focus primarily on advanced mechanical design projects across the Nuclear, Renewables, and Defence market. You will need to be from a Mechanical Engineering background, and be interested in solving unique design problems with logical well-reasoned solutions. If based out of Rotherham you may find yourself working on a range of projects, from Nuclear New Build projects such as ITER and Hinkley Point C, to Offshore Wind projects such as Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm.

Epsom/London - Based in our Epsom or London office you could find yourself in one of the following teams; Fluid Mechanics, Advanced Mechanical Engineering and the Offshore Structures team.  Working across our Oil and Gas, Offshore Wind and Nuclear Markets, some of our recent projects include: Prelude FLNG, Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm, Hinckley Point C, Sizewell and Beatrice Wind Farm.  We are looking for candidates who have a keen interest in either Mechanical Equipment design, Fluid Mechanics & Heat Transfer or Offshore Structures.

Glasgow – Based in our Glasgow or Bellshill office you’ll find yourself working primarily on projects in the Offshore Engineering and Power Generation markets. Some of our current projects include Asset Integrity work for BP and Repsol in the North Sea, Structural Design for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm and Mechanical Integrity assessments for Power Stations in the UK and overseas.  We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in assessing integrity of aging plant, performing structural & mechanical design and analysis as well as working across all of the various energy sectors.

Warrington – Based in our Warrington office you’ll gain experience on a wide range of nuclear projects for clients of all different backgrounds and capabilities. You will have the chance to work collaboratively with more experienced, senior engineers, giving you the greatest opportunity to develop and progress your career. We are looking for candidates with a mechanical background who want to be part of a team involved in some of the biggest and best nuclear projects around.

Whitehaven – Based in our Whitehaven office, you’ll be working primarily on unique and challenging Nuclear Decommissioning projects.  The ideal candidate will have an interest in static and dynamic mechanical loading and be passionate about digital innovation and how this can shape the engineering future.

In addition to some of the responsibilities you can see above for specific locations - As a graduate engineer, you could also be involved in;

  • Supporting on some major projects across various areas of Energy from nuclear decommissioning, new power generation and transmission, to offshore, wave and tidal energy
  • Reviewing and developing designs to improve plants, equipment, structures and Energy related systems
  • Carrying out surveys and site inspections, building strong client relationships
  • Using a variety of engineering software packages, as well as 2D and 3D modelling for new designs and modifications
  • Producing safety cases, reports and documentation to support the planning, design, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of Energy facilities
  • Carrying out design and assessment for new build projects as well as additions, modifications and repairs to existing assets.
  • Attending graduate networks & forums to help shape our scheme & graduate community activities

Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a talented graduate with a minimum 2.2 Masters/MEng degree in a relevant Mechanical Engineering degree discipline. 

You’ll have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills and achieve Chartered status.  With a passion for working in a consultancy environment, you’ll want to work with customers and with teams who deliver to their customers and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with uncertainty.  Communication and team-working will be your key skills as well as having the ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions.
