What you’ll be doing
We have opportunities for undergraduates from a multitude of degree backgrounds to join our Energy safety case and human factors teams across the UK.

SUMMER – Epsom (Physics)

INDUSTRIAL YEAR – London (Human Factors)

From an Engineering, Science or Human Factors background you could be working in one of the following teams, here’s a little about what they do;

Epsom – Based here as an undergraduate Safety Engineer you will be working on projects primarily in the Nuclear and Oil & Gas markets.  Some of our recent project work has been in support of new nuclear facilities in the UK and for oil & gas operators in central Asia.  We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in problem solving, analytical thinking and an interest in Safety. Candidates will have studied Chemical, Process, Physics or Degrees relating to Nuclear Science or Nuclear Engineering.

London – The Atkins Human Factors and Ergonomics team works within the high hazard industries all around the globe. Our team is comprised of a range of staff from recent graduates through to Chief Engineers with over thirty years’ experience, and works with both our internal engineering and design teams and our external clients to deliver industry-leading Human Factors and Ergonomics services to some of the world’s biggest engineering projects.

You could also…
In addition to some of the responsibilities you can see above for specific locations, you could also be involved in;

• Supporting on some major projects across various areas of Energy from nuclear decommissioning, new power generation and transmission, to offshore, wave and tidal energy
• Reviewing and developing designs to improve plants, equipment, structures and Energy related systems
• Carrying out surveys and site inspections, building strong client relationships
• Using a variety of engineering software packages, as well as 2D and 3D modelling for new designs and modifications
• Producing safety cases, reports and documentation to support the planning, design, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of Energy facilities
• Carrying out design and assessment for new build projects as well as additions, modifications and repairs to existing assets.

Who we’re looking for
You’ll be on track to achieve a 2:2 Masters/MEng degree in a relevant degree discipline.

You’ll have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills.  With a passion for working in a consultancy environment, you’ll want to work with customers and with teams who deliver to their customers and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with uncertainty.  Communication and team-working will be your key skills as well as having the ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions.
