Engineering BIM Highways Technician

We have a number of ongoing framework and major project commissions, providing a steady volume of a wide range of work, from feasibility studies right through to detailed design and supervision of construction. This role offers the unrivalled opportunity to be a part of developing our national infrastructure, including some of the largest transportation projects in the country.

To meet our growth ambitions, we are looking to recruit an Engineering BIM Highways Technician who has experience in highways-related civil infrastructure design and detailing, and who will play a key role in the development and delivery of major projects in this field. We are looking for a qualified and experienced technician who will make a valuable contribution to both the design and construction process. This role will be in the Transportation sector and will primarily be based in our Epsom office. However, priority will be given to applicants who will, in the future, enjoy the challenge and rewards of managing BIM deployment on construction sites in the South East.

Job Details
Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a team to develop and implement methodologies and processes to create data-rich 3D BIM design models, and associated derivative deliverables
• Support highway and bridge engineers designing, detailing and supporting the construction of transportation projects
• Review and challenge designs to ensure accurate, buildable and efficient solutions for our clients
• Drive continuous improvement
• Report to the design team leader on progress of projects
• Support and mentor other staff, both day-to-day and in their career development
• Contribute to winning new work from clients
• Contribute to meeting the business goals by working as part of a key team

Requirements

Essential Attributes

• HNC/HND (or equivalent).
• Engineering Technician or working towards IEng status
• Significant technical experience of civil or structural drawing to standards
• Knowledge of AutoCAD (or equivalent) and related software
• Be self-motivated to progress personal development
• An understanding of asset modelling and management through databases.
• Microsoft Office suite

Desirable Attributes

• Knowledge of 3D CAD surface and solid modelling
• Knowledge of authoring tools e.g. Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, MX, Revit, Microstation
• Knowledge of coordination tools e.g. Navisworks, Navigator, Synchro
• Knowledge of collaboration tools e.g. ProjectWise, Business Collaborator
• Knowledge of UK BIM standards and protocols eg BS/PAS 1192 series, CIC
• Experience of UK highway design standards
• Willingness and capability to work on a highways construction site, including holding a valid UK driving license.

The Individual

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive individual who will make a valuable contribution as part of a team, to developing and implementing our approach to advance the company’s BIM capability. They will be keen to develop both themselves and others, always looking to find better ways to do things, and striving for continuous improvement. Although this position is technically based, the role will necessitate coordination of multi-disciplinary design elements, and effective communication with both design and construction teams. There will also be a requirement to take a lead working with software developers to develop new software solutions to ensure project and business objectives are achieved.
