Environmental Chemist / Water Quality Specialist

SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies and the largest engineering consultancy in Europe. Our Water Management Consultancy Practice covers a wider range of specialisms - including environmental chemistry, water quality, catchment management, hydrology/water resource planning, and geomorphology. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and the depth of our technical expertise. We currently have a number of new exciting and technically challenging projects in the wider environmental chemistry and water quality area. We welcome application from enthusiastic scientists in this field. The post can be full-time or part-time; flexible working options are available.

Full-time or part-time position based in our Bristol (ideally), Epsom, Oxford, Peterborough or Warrington office.


Requirements
• Must have a degree in a relevant discipline and preferably relevant post-graduate qualification (for example with a focus on environmental chemistry, water quality, geochemistry). 
• Experience in one of the following fields: environmental chemistry, aquatic/marine biogeochemistry, river water quality assessment.
• Must have excellent numerical and data analysis skills; a high degree of numeracy with good working knowledge of Excel.
• Experience in programming and advanced statistical analysis (e.g. VBA, Python, R) would be desirable.
• Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific writing is key. Able to adapt writing style to produce documents for different types of audience, including non-specialists.
• Experience in water quality modelling is desirable, but not essential if individual is willing to receive training in this area. 
• Knowledge of the prevailing environmental policy and legislation (in particular, the Water Framework Directive, Priority Substances and Sludge Directives) is desirable.

Responsibilities
• To work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients.
• To support the delivery of projects within the Water Management Consultancy Team and work collaboratively with other Atkins’ businesses.
• Depending on experience, to support or lead on delivery of key technical areas related to water quality planning and modelling.
• To support enquiries and provide input to proposals for the future success of the business. 
• Maintain excellent professional relationships.

• Good team worker, comfortable working in large teams with range of specialists with different technical backgrounds 
• Keen to learn new skills/expand knowledge into new skill areas.
