You will join a team of over 60 EIA and environmental coordinators located across the UK and Ireland, working to deliver an exciting range of high profile infrastructure projects. Key clients include: DfT, HS2, EastWestRail, Highways England, Severn Trent Water, the Environment Agency and Local Authorities. We also have an extensive portfolio of private development clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for a keen environmentalist holding relevant qualifications and with relevant experience, who is seeking a career in this fast paced and exciting industry. The successful applicant should be stimulated by fresh challenges and be a problem-solver.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Environmental Consultant to join our team in Birmingham who is keen to develop as an environmental consultant working on a diverse range of projects. Working collaboratively within a local team of over 50 , environmental professionals you will assist in coordinating and providing technical input into environmental impact assessments, as well as undertaking broader environmental management tasks for a variety of projects.

You will be a strong team player with first-class organisational and communication skills and have a keen eye for detail. A sound basic understanding of relevant UK environmental legislation and some knowledge of all the technical disciplines required for an EIA is desirable. This will be combined with an ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people teams to assist with the delivery of optimal environmental outcomes on projects. You will also assist colleagues with contributing towards achieving business targets, including business delivery and work winning.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake desk top assessments
  • Identify environmental risk and, with colleagues, develop mitigation.
  • Review and analyse data and assist with producing written reports.
  • Undertake environmental co-ordination
  • Assist with permitting and consenting.
  • Competently undertake work to an excellent standard
  • Develop and maintain relationships across the organisation.
  • Maintain continual professional development in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute

Essential Skills

  • Able to assist with the delivery of environmental tasks being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Organised and good at time management.
  • Able to produce work on their own initiative and present the key issues concisely, understandable to non-specialists.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to contribute towards developing new professional relationships.
  • A self-starter able to work under instruction and deliver to high standards, and to deadlines.
  • Ability to assess a range of adverse impact on the environment;
  • A good communicator, able to communicate scientific and technical information to colleagues and others;
  • Assists the organisation to conduct their activities in an environmentally appropriate manner;
  • Degree or Masters qualified in an environmental subject.

Desirable:

  • Some experience of environmental management and assessment on infrastructure projects.
  • Flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other Atkins or client office locations
  • Chartered, with a relevant professional institute.

We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions such as RTPI, LI, ICE, CIEEM, CIWEM, CIEEM and IEMA.
