Atkins, part of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. We are looking to recruit an environmental consultant with demonstrable experience to support the growth of infrastructure projects in the rail sector. Our current clients in this industry include Network Rail, HS2, Transport for London, Docklands Light Railway, as well as other public and private sector clients. We support our clients in delivering their environmental and sustainability obligations and offer proactive and imaginative solutions.

You will join a large team of EIA and environmental coordinators located across the country. The successful applicant should be stimulated by fresh challenges and seek to surmount them in a practical way.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, help to coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments and develop Environmental Management Plans for the design and construction phases of rail projects. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in an environmental or related discipline and have a broad understanding of all the technical specialisms required for environmental management, sustainable design plans and EIA.

We will help you build your career within Atkins and guide you in your route to Chartership through a relevant environmental professional body such as IEMA, CIWEM or CIEEM. We develop individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents and offer mentoring support.

Responsibilities

• Support coordination and delivery of environmental work principally in the rail sector including environmental appraisals, environmental management and EIA.
• Manage multi-disciplinary specialist teams.
• Work as part of a project team to influence project development to deliver optimal environmental outcomes.
• Collate and edit information from a range of sources to provide clear, well written reports.
• Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, on time and to budget.
• Able to manage clients’ needs in a confident, professional manner.
• Support on bid preparation and business development as required.
• Undertake Continual Professional Development in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute and work towards becoming chartered.

Requirements


• Degree or Masters in an environmental or science subject.
• Knowledge of design environmental management, mitigation and control measure of the technical specialisms; and their application to design projects, particularly in the rail sector.
• Awareness of rail sector design principles and governance processes such as Network Rail’s GRIP process and TfL’s Sustainability Framework.
• Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills.
• Able to prioritise and work effectively under pressure.
• Have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively.
• Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other Atkins or client office locations.
• Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.
