Atkins, part of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. We are looking to recruit environmental consultants with around 1-5 years’ experience to support the growth of infrastructure projects, with a focus on the rail sector. We have numerous contracts with clients in the rail industry including major projects with Network Rail, Transport for London and other public and private sector clients.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, help to coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and develop Environmental Management Plans for the design and construction phases of projects. You will be educated to degree level in an environmental or related discipline and have a broad understanding of all the technical specialisms involved in environmental management, sustainable design and EIA.
We will help you build your career within Atkins and guide you in your route to Chartership through a relevant environmental professional body such as IEMA, CIWEM or CIEEM. We develop individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents and offer mentoring support.
Responsibilities
- Support coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams including environmental appraisals, environmental management and EIA.
- Work as part of a project team to influence project development to deliver optimal environmental outcomes.
- Collate and edit information from a range of sources to provide clear, well written reports.
- Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, on time and to budget.
- Manage clients’ needs in a confident, professional manner.
- Support on bid preparation and business development.
- Undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute and work towards becoming a Chartered Environmentalist.
Requirements
- Degree or Masters in an environmental or science subject.
- Experience of environmental consultancy, ideally in the rail sector.
- Awareness of rail sector design principles and processes, such as Network Rail’s GRIP process and TfL’s Sustainability Framework, is desirable.
- Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills.
- Experience of the use and interpretation of GIS data in design and engineering is desirable.
- Able to prioritise and work effecively under pressure.
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively.
- Flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other Atkins or client office locations.
- Self-motivated, with an enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.
