Environmental Scientist

Atkins Water Management Consultancy Practice have an opportunity to appoint an Environmental Scientist / Engineer to support our research project portfolio.

This role will sit within our Strategic Advisory Services Research (SAS-R) team. Our SAS-R team is a growing part of the Water Management Consultancy Practice and provides a range of innovative services to private and public-sector clients, especially in the fields of water quality, sewage treatment technologies and water related regulatory compliance.

As an Environmental Scientist / Environmental Engineer within SAS-R you will work as part of a dynamic and evolving team of environmental and engineering professionals from across the Atkins business to provide integrated services to our Clients.

Responsibilities

• Support or lead on the delivery of key technical areas related to water quality planning and research.
• To work effectively as part of a team with other professionals (Environmental Scientists, Engineers, Planners amongst others) throughout Atkins to support the delivery of ongoing research projects and to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients.
• Support enquiries and provide input to bids for the future success of the business.
• Maintain excellent professional relationships with clients.

Requirements

• A post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline with a focus on water quality, environmental chemistry and wastewater engineering; familiarity with metals chemistry and the concepts of speciation and bioavailability is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of EU and UK environmental regulation; the Water Framework and Priority Substances Directives.
• Familiarity with UK water industry trade effluent and discharge permitting procedures.
• Excellent data analysis skills and a high degree of numeracy with good working knowledge of Excel, Access and GIS software packages. Knowledge of other specialist data analysis tools/approaches and programming languages advantageous.
• Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific report writing demonstrated through existing work (e.g. scientific publications) and ability to adapt writing style to produce documents for different audiences.
• Experience in presentations through scientific conferences/meetings.
