SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Calverton, Maryland EcoSciences Group as an Environmental Scientist.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under supervision, performs standard scientific work while developing professional proficiency. Will work under technical direction to develop exposure and skills for regulatory compliance in a wide variety of projects and clients. The successful candidate will be gain exposure and on the job experience in a variety of disciplines, including ecological surveys, wetland and stream mapping, Geographical Information Systems, technical writing, Section 401/402/404 permitting, National Environmental Policy Act compliance, and functional assessment of wetlands and streams.

JOB DUTIES

Generally applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified scientific tasks, requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning, and being able to detect problems in using standardized procedures.
Experience performing jurisdictional delineations of waters of the U.S. using USACE regional supplements for Mid-Atlantic regions preferred.
Experience using Geographical Information Systems (ArcGIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and/or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and integrating data into mapping preferred.
Demonstrable experience in technical writing, Section 404/401 permitting, or support of National Environmental Policy Act will result in additional consideration.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. or B.A. in a field of Science to commensurate with hiring discipline.
Minimal experience is required of incumbents with directly related Bachelor's degree; no experience is required with a Master's degree.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
Technical writing, computer, and communication skills.
Preference for candidates with GIS data creation, topology, or wetland mapping skills.
